AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR WESTERN SD AND NORTHEASTERN WY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RAPID CITY SD
300 PM MDT FRI AUG 09 2002

LATEST SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING OVER NRN ROCKIES
WITH RIDGING EXTENDING INTO WRN SD. WV AND IR REVEAL UPPER LOW
SPINNING OUT OF MT INTO WRN ND. A SMALL VORT MAX IS ROTATING AROUND
THIS LOW ACROSS NE WY AND WRN SD ATTM. THIS HAS KICKED OFF A SMALL
AREA OF CONVECTION THAT HAS BEEN MOVING ACROSS THE NORTHERN BLACK
HILLS. SHOULD SEE THIS DISSIPATING OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. ERN
ZONES SEEING A FEW -TSRA ALONG FRONTAL BOUNDARY.

12Z MODELS INITIALIZE WELL AND SHOW GOOD AGREEMENT. WILL EXPECT
CLOUD COVER ASSOC WITH UPPER LOW TO SWEEP ACROSS NRN ZONES THIS
EVENING AND THEN PARTLY CLOUDY SHOULD PREVAIL FOR SEVERAL PERIODS. A
BIT OF A WARM UP SAT AND SUNDAY...THEN ROBUST CAA WILL COOL CWFA
DOWN. WILL STRUGGLE TO HIT 70S ON MONDAY AND WILL REMAIN IN 70S
THROUGH MID WEEK. THU AND FRI WILL SEE WARMING TREND INTO 80S AND
90S AGAIN. WILL SEE A CHC OF PRECIP WITH COLDFRONT LATE
SUNDAY...THEN DRY UNTIL MID WEEK AS STEEP LAPSE RATES AND HEATING
WILL ALLOW DIURNAL CHC POPS. ALL THIS IS DUE TO HIGH AMPLITUDE UPPER
RIDGE BUILDING OFF THE PACIFIC COAST...WITH LONG WAVE TROF
DEVELOPING OVER CENT U.S. THIS WILL KEEP CAA FLOWING OVER NRN
PLAINS...OFFSETTING WARM AUGUST HEATING.

MODEL GUIDANCE SHOWING GOOD AGREEMENT THROUGH EXTENDED AND LOOKS
REASONABLE. HAVENT CHANGED MUCH.
.UNR...NONE.
