AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR WESTERN SD AND NORTHEASTERN WY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RAPID CITY SD
1010 AM MDT THU AUG 8 2002

UPDATED THE ZONES TO TAKE OUT MORNING WORDING AND REFOCUS ON
AFTERNOON FORECAST. THE SURFCE TROUGH HAS MOVED INTO THE ERN PTN OF
THE FA THIS MORNING...ACCOMPANIED BY SCT WEAK CONVECTION. WILL KEEP
THE MENTION OF TSTMS IN THE SCNTRL COUNTIES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE
DAY. BEHIND THE SURFACE TROUGH...OVER WRN SD AND NERN WY...THE LOW
LEVEL WIND PROFILE IS NOT AS SUPPORTIVE OF ORGANIZED CONVECTION THIS
AFTERNOON. HAVE LOWERED THE POPS A BIT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY
MOST AREAS.

12Z ETA SHOWS NWRN SD GETTING THE BEST PART OF THE STORM
TONIGHT...WITH THE BEST UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT AND MOST MOISTURE. WLY
LOW TO MID LEVEL FLOW LATER TODAY AND THIS EVENING WILL DRY OUT THE
LOWER LAYERS OF THE AMS...PROBABLY REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF PCPN FOR
THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA. KEPT LIKELY POPS IN MOST AREAS SINCE WE
STILL EXPECT CONVECTION...BUT AM STARTING THINK MEASURABLE PCPN WILL
BE LESS THAN EXPECTED FOR ALL BUT THE NW CRNR OF SD.

.UNR...NONE.
