Low pressure developed rapidly across the lower Mississippi Valley and intensified as it moved northeast through the mid-Atlantic region. The low pressure system then reformed off the Delmarva Coast. Snow from the system began across the southern tier counties of central Pennsylvania around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19th. A second band of snow set up across the northern tier of Pennsylvania around noon on Saturday, slowly sinking southward during the day. Most of central Pennsylvania was sandwiched between these two areas, receiving 2 to 4 inches of snow. Snowfall of 6 inches or more fell across the northern tier counties, and also across the far southeast. Maximum reported snowfall in the WFO State College area of responsibility with this storm was 8 inches in Coudersport, Potter County.
