EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OKLAHOMA
355 PM CDT TUE AUG 6 2002

MAIN CONCERN TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY IS THE MOIST AXIS WHICH WILL ADVECT
SOUTHWEST FROM MISSOURI INTO THE FORECAST AREA. SMALL CONVECTIVE VORT
MAX MOVING INTO SOUTHWEST MISSOURI MAY ALSO ENHANCE CONVECTION.
NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS WILL BE MOST AFFECTED TONIGHT
AND WEDNESDAY MORNING WITH REDEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON OCCURRING
FURTHER TO THE SOUTH AND WEST NEAR THE CLOUD/SUN BOUNDARY. WILL GO AT
OR ABOVE THE HIGHEST GUIDANCE POPS AS MODELS SEEM TO BE UNDERESTIMATING
THE CONVECTIVE POTENTIAL OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

TEMPERATURES WILL BE TRICKY TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WITH CLOUD COVER AND
PRECIPITATION PLAYING HAVOC WITH THEM. EXPECT ENOUGH SUNSHINE BY
AFTERNOON WEDNESDAY TO GET MOST PLACES INTO THE UPPER 80S TO LOWER 90S.
BACKDOOR COLD FRONT WILL ADVANCE SLOWLY WEST ACROSS THE AREA WEDNESDAY
AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH DRIER AIR WORKING IN FROM THE EAST BEHIND IT.
WILL MAINTAIN LOW POPS INTO THURSDAY IN THE SOUTHWEST PART OF THE
FORECAST AREA WHERE THE FRONT MAY HANG UP.

CONFIDENCE IN THE EXTENDED IS NOT TOO HIGH TODAY. IT APPEARS THAT SOME
TROPICAL MOISTURE WILL WORK ITS WAY NORTH INTO THE AREA BY FRIDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH THE WEEKEND. SOME OF THIS IS BERTHA MOISTURE SO THIS
COULD BECOME AN EFFICIENT RAIN PRODUCER AND MAY ALSO HOLD TEMPERATURES
DOWN BUT WILL NOT GET TOO CARRIED AWAY AT THIS POINT IN TIME. A
SHORTWAVE MOVING THROUGH THE NORTHERN PLAINS WILL ALLOW A WEAK COLD
FRONT TO DROP DOWN INTO KANSAS AND NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA OVER THE WEEKEND
BEFORE WASHING OUT. MUCH OF THE CONVECTION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FRONT
SHOULD REMAIN TO THE WEST AND NORTH WITH THE BIGGER RISK BEING THE
TROPICAL MOISTURE SPREADING UP FROM THE SOUTH.

WILL LOWER POPS MONDAY AND TUESDAY BUT NOT DROP THEM ENTIRELY AS
MOISTURE NEVER REALLY GETS SCOURED OUT.

STAYED FAIRLY CLOSE TO GUIDANCE TEMPERATURES THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS.
