AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
230 PM EST TUE JUN 25 2002

SHORT TERM...
RADAR ECHOES WERE SCATTERED OVER THE CWA THIS AFTERNOON...IN A
SATURATED AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS. WEAK POCKETS OF ENERGY WERE
ROTATING OVER THE AREA HELPING TO INITIATE THE CONVECTION. THE
ATMOSPHERE IS VERY WARM WITH FREEZING LEVELS AROUND 15K FT.
PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES ARE AROUND 2 INCHES AND THE WIND FIELD IS
WEAK AND NEARLY UNIDIRECTIONAL. ALL THESE FACTORS POINT TO
UNORGANIZED AND NEAR SEVERE TSRAS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A FEW
REPORTS OF 3/4 INCH HAIL ARE POSSIBLE...BUT MOST HAIL SHOULD BE 1/2
INCH OR LESS. MAY ALSO HAVE LOCALIZED WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH...SO
BIGGEST THREAT WILL BE LOCALIZED FLOODING FROM TORRENTIAL
DOWNPOURS TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT IN EARLY PERIODS...BUT AVN IS A BIT
STRONGER AND FASTER WITH FEATURES IN LATER PERIODS THAN THE ETA.
AVN IS MORE CONSISTENT AND HAS BEEN DOING A GOOD JOB LATELY...SO
WILL CONTINUE TO FAVOR ITS SOLUTIONS.

THE FRONT...CURRENTLY OVER WI AND MN...IS FORECAST TO ADVANCE SEWD
INTO THE CWA WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE FRONT WILL PROVIDE THE CONVECTION
A PLACE TO ORGANIZE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING. THE FRONT
SHOULD MOVE THROUGH THE NORTHERN 1/2 OF THE CWA BY 12Z THURSDAY AND
THROUGH THE REST OF THE CWA BY 18Z.

CONTINUED WARM AND HUMID TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...BUT 5 TO
10 DEGREES COOLER ON THURSDAY.

...EXTENDED FORECAST...
ECMWF AND MRF BOTH MOVE A LARGE 500MB HIGH OVER THE UPPER MIDWEST
FOR SATURDAY...SUNDAY AND MONDAY. SO IT LOOKS TO BE A HOT
WEEKEND. SO HAVE INCREASED TEMPERATURES THROUGH MONDAY OF NEXT
WEEK. A WEAK FRONT APPROACHES THE AREA TUESDAY SO ADDED A CHANCE
OF THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY WITH COOLER TEMPS.

.IWX...NONE.
