AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BISMARCK ND 300 PM CDT FRI JUN 21 2002 PROBLEMS TODAY ARE FLOODING AND SEVERE CONVECTION POSSIBILITES. THINGS BEGINNING THIS EVENING A BIT LATER THAN EXPECTED ON YESTERDAYS PACKAGE...BUT IN GENERAL SIMILIAR. VERY IMPRESSIVE MODEL QPF ALONG WITH PROGGD PWS APPROACHING 2 INCHES AND THE K-INDEX AT OR ABOVE 40. HOWEVER ANTECEDENT CONDITIONS OVER MUCH OF FORECAST AREA LEAD TO FLASH-FLOOD GUIDANCE GREATER THAN 4 INCHES IN SOME COUNTIES...THOUGH SOME PORTIONS OF CENTRAL ONLY ABOUT 2. FOR THIS REASON WILL NOT ISSUE FLOOD WARNINGS TODAY...THOUGH FF GUIDANCE WILL CERTAINLY BE ADJUSTED AFTER TONIGHTS ROUND OF CONVECTION. CONVECTION NOW FIRING OVER NORTHEAST WYOMING MOVING TO SOUTHWEST PORTION CWA THIS EVENING. SATURDAY SURFACE LOW MOVES INTO CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA WITH VERY MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS OVERRUNNING QUASI-STATIONARY BOUNDARY SOUTH OF CWA HEAVY RAIN AND SEVERE ELEVATED CONVECTION AGAIN LIKELY. SUNDAY ALSO WET AS LOW PRESSURE LINGERS OVER WESTERN SD AND UPPER LEVEL MAKES SLOW HEADWAY INTO TILTED RIDGE. IN EXTENDED MEDIUM RANGE MODELS IN GOOD AGREEMENT. SCATTERED CONVECTION NOT OUT OF THE QUESITON ON EAST SIDE OF RIDGE BUT FOR NOW WILL KEEP REMAINDER OF EXTENDED PACKAGE DRY. .BIS...NONE. HW
