Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

NWS Hastings, NE wrote its last area forecast discussion before the first event at Aug 23, 1:45 PM CST, 3 hours 48 minutes earlier.
SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA/NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE 245 PM CDT FRI AUG 23 2002 ...FORECAST CONCERN CONTINUES TO BE RAIN CHANCES TONIGHT AND SATURDAY... SURFACE ANALYSIS HAD FRONT FROM JUST SOUTH OF MCI SOUTHWARD ALONG SOUTHERN KANSAS. DEWPOINTS NOT QUITE AS HIGH AS YESTERDAY ACROSS THE CWA BUT STILL AROUND 70 IN THE EASTERN PART. VISIBLE SATELLITE SHOWING OLD OUTFLOW BOUNDARY IN EASTERN PART OF CWA STRETCHING BACK TO THE NW. IN THE UPPER LEVELS...SHORTWAVE THAT TRIGGERED LAST NIGHTS CONVECTION HAS MOVED EAST. UPPER LOW STILL SITTING AND SPINNING OVER ERN OREGON WHILE WATER VAPOR IMAGERY HAS PACIFIC MOISTURE CONNECTION STREAMING INTO NEB/KS ALONG A FAIRLY IMPRESSIVE JET WITH 90 KTS AT 250 MB EARLIER. MAIN ACTION SHOULD GET UNDERWAY LATER TONIGHT WITH APPROACHING SHORTWAVE NOW CROSSING NEVADA. BOTH ETA AND AVN PUT US UNDER LEFT EXIT REGION OF JET INTO SATURDAY. DIVERGENCE FIELDS BEAR THIS OUT AS DO OMEGA FIELDS WITH 6 TO 10 MIRCOBARS PER SECOND OF LIFT OVER GRI BETWEEN 6 AND 18Z. MOST OF THIS DUE TO UPPER FORCING AS LOW LEVEL WARM ADVECTION MINIMAL. LOW LEVEL JET OF 35 KTS EXPECTED OVER WRN KANSAS TO HELP SUSTAIN ANY MCS THAT ROLLS OFF THE HIGH PLAINS. CORFIDI VECTORS AND 700-300 THICKNESSES WOULD POINT TO AN ESE MOVEMENT AT A DECENT RATE. THETA E RIDGE LOOKS TO REMAIN SOUTHWEST OF CWA. IDEA OF MCS ROLLING ACROSS THE SW PART OF THE FORECAST AREA LATER TONIGHT STILL SEEMS TO BE ON TRACK. HOWEVER PLAN TO HAVE POPS ACROSS ALL OF CWA WITH NUMBERS INCREASING NE TO SW. WHILE HEAVY RAIN A POSSIBILITY...WONT MENTION IN ZONES DUE TO SPEED OF SYSTEM AND UNCERTAINTY OF PATH. NEXT QUESTION IS HOW LONG TO LINGER PRECIP ON SATURDAY. GIVEN EXPECTED MOVEMENT OF MCS WILL GRADUALLY CLEAR THINGS OUT NW TO SE AS DAYS WEARS ON. REST OF WEEKEND SHOULD BE DRY. TEMPS MAY RECOVER INTO THE MID TO UPPER 80S WITH PLENTY OF AUGUST SUNSHINE. FOR LATER ON...WILL GO AHEAD AND INTRODUCE CHANCE OF RAIN TUES NIGHT INTO WED AS CANADIAN WAVE DROPS A COLD FRONT INTO CENTRAL PLAINS. .GID...NONE. EWALD
