Strong winds behind a cold front rocked much of central and east Missouri Saturday causing scattered damage. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph were common across the area. Area electric companies reported scattered power outages as some power poles and lines were downed by the winds. Close to 50,000 customers lost power at various times in the St. Louis area. Some billboards and street signs were also damaged by the wind.
