AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON MS
250 AM CDT THU JUN 27 2002

MAIN CONCERN IN SHORT TERM IS FORECASTING COVERAGE OF SHOWERS/TSTMS.
PATTERN IS RELATIVELY UNCHANGED WITH MID LEVEL TROF CONTINUING TO
SHEAR OVER THE ARKLATEX REGION AND DEEP SOUTH-SOUTHWEST FLOW EAST OF
TROF AXIS FEEDING HIGH PRECIPITABLE WATER AIRMASS OVER THE FORECAST
AREA.

WHILE MODELS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT WITH THE OVERALL PATTERN...
THEY ARE NOT HELPING MUCH WITH THE DETAILS. ATTEMPTING TO DIAGNOSE
VERTICAL MOTION FIELDS IS NOT THE EASIEST THING AT THIS TIME. THE
LATEST RUC/ETA/AVN INDICATE INCREASING OMEGA ALONG THE LA COAST THIS
MORNING AND DEVELOP IT NORTHWARD OVER THE FORECAST AREA DURING DAY.
IT IS HARD TO FIND AN ENTITY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FORECASTED LIFT
OTHER THAN GENERAL LOW LEVEL WARM ADVECTION. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY IS
FUZZY WITH LITTLE TO SHOW IN TERMS OF MINOR DISTURBANCES. LATEST
RADAR IMAGERY FROM KLCH/KPOE DOES INDICATE AN INCREASING AREA OF
SHOWERS/TSTMS DEVELOPING OVER SOUTHWEST LA. 00Z ETA IS QUITE
OVERDONE WITH THE CURRENT QPF SITUATION AND WILL HAVE TO DISCARD FOR
THE FIRST PERIOD. LATEST RUC GUIDANCE AND AVN/UKMET SEEM TO HAVE
RIGHT IDEA IN SLOWLY DEVELOPING DEEP CONVECTION NORTH ACROSS THE
FORECAST AREA DURING DAY...SIMILAR TO PAST COUPLE OF DAYS. BELIEVE
THERE MAY BE A LITTLE BETTER COVERAGE JUST DUE TO THE EXPECTED
INCREASE IN DEEP LAYER MOISTURE (PRECIP WATER VALUES 2 INCHES).
BASED ON THE POSITIONING OF THE SHEAR AXIS AND ASSOC LOW LEVEL
THETAE RIDGE...WILL HIT PRECIP CHANCES HARDER OVER WRN HALF OF THE
AREA...BUT UNDERCUT TODAYS MOS GUIDANCE (ESPECIALLY ETA)
CATEGORICAL PRECIP CHANCES. A LIMITING FACTOR IN CONVECTIVE
DEVELOPMENT PAST COUPLE OF DAYS HAS BEEN LESS THAN FAVORABLE SURFACE
BASED INSTABILITY WITH MANY LOCATIONS NOT GETTING OUT OF LOWER 80S
DURING PEAK HEATING. AM BANKING THAT THE PERSISTENT THETAE ADVECTION
ASSOC WITH SHEARING TROF WILL CREATE A LITTLE BETTER COVERAGE TODAY
AND THIS EVENING. FRIDAYS FORECAST LOOKS RATHER SIMILAR. EVEN
THOUGH THE SHEAR AXIS WILL LOSE DEFINITION...NRN STREAM SHORTWAVE
ENERGY WILL BEGIN TO INTERACT WITH HIGH MOISTURE AIRMASS TO ENHANCE
CONVECTION CHANCES...ESPECIALLY NRN/WRN COUNTIES AND PARISHES.

IN THE EXTENDED...THE 00Z AVN AND UKMET GUIDANCE INDICATE THAT
MID LEVEL HEIGHTS WILL BEGIN A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE THIS WEEKEND
WITH A 500MB 593DM RIDGE CENTER ACTUALLY DEVELOPING OVER CNTRL/SRN
MS BY LATE WEEKEND. THESE MODEL SOLUTIONS MAY SIGNAL THE BEGINNING
OF A PATTERN CHANGE TOWARDS LESS CONVECTIVE PRECIPITATION AND HOTTER
TEMPS...BUT CANNOT JUSTIFY CHANGING THE PRECIP WORDING YET. CURRENT
FORECAST LOOKS ON TRACK WITH HIGH TEMPS GETTING BACK INTO THE LOWER
90S.
