Scattered thunderstorms with high winds and hail moved through Southern Maryland, the Baltimore metro area, and Northern Central Maryland on the evening of the 27th. In Washington County, large trees and power lines were downed in Hagerstown by winds estimated around 60 MPH. Four homes and 8 cars were damaged by the fallen trees. Two miles northeast of Smithsburg, a wind sensor measured a downburst wind gust of 81 mph before being blown away. The winds destroyed the remainder of the weather station by ripping it and the piece of roof it was attached to off a house. The winds also destroyed an 800 pound wooden play set nearby. The roof of a barn and 30 feet of fencing was blown away and a 1200 pound boat was moved. Dime sized hail was also reported. In Prince George's County, high winds downed trees in Greenbelt, Seat Pleasant, and Landover. In Calvert County, winds knocked down trees in Sunderland. In St. Mary's County, trees were downed in Golden Beach. In Howard County, a 57 MPH wind gust was recorded in Fulton.
