AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS IN
259 PM EST TUE JUL 9 2002
FORECAST FOCUS THIS AFTERNOON IS ON CHANCES FOR RAIN TONIGHT AND WED
AS WELL AS TEMPS THRU THE SHORT TERM.
AT 19Z A COLD FRONT WAS ACROSS EXTREME NRN IN AND EXTENDED INTO NRN
IL. SCT TSRA WERE FORMING IN THE WARM UNSTABLE AIRMASS AHEAD OF THE
FRONT. TEMPS ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA (FA) WERE IN THE UPPER 80S TO
LOWER 90S WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE LOW TO MID 70S.
MODELS IN FAIR AGREEMENT...BUT A COUPLE OF NOTABLE DIFFERENCES. AVN
IS MORE AGRESSIVE IN KEEPING PRECIP IN FA ON WED WHILE ETA KEEPS FA
DRY. AVN ALSO STRONGER WITH UPPER LOW IN LATER PERIODS. FEEL THAT
THE BETTER RESOLUTION ETA IS THE WAY TO GO THIS RUN AS AVN MAY BE
BROADBRUSHING PRECIP IN SHORT TERM. WILL THUS FOCUS ON ETA THIS RUN.
COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THRU FA TONIGHT. BASED ON CURRENT RADAR AND
POSITION OF FRONT FEEL THAT SCATTERED WORDING SHOULD HOLD FOR
TONIGHT. WILL GO 50 POPS ALL AREAS TONIGHT. COULD BE A FEW STRAY
SHRA BEHIND THE FRONT ALONG A WEAK CONVERGENCE ZONE...AND ETA HINTS
AT THIS AS WELL. WILL KEEP CHC SHRA THROUGH THE EARLY PART OF THE
NIGHT. MOS TEMPS ARE CLOSE AND WILL GENERALLY FOLLOW SINCE DEWPOINTS
WILL NOT LOWER MUCH TONIGHT.
ON WED DRIER AIR WILL BE SLOW TO WORK IN. WILL BE SOME CLOUDS IN THE
MORNING THEN MORE SUN IN THE AFTN. NGM LOOKS TO DRY THINGS OUT TOO
QUICKLY. FWC IS ALSO TOO AGRESSIVE WITH COOLER AIR. WILL GO CLOSER
TO MAV HI TEMPS...WHICH ARE BETWEEN COLD FWC AND A LITTLE TOO WARM
MET NUMBERS.
DRIER AIR WILL THEN WORK IN FOR WED NIGHT AND THU. DRIEST AIR AND
THUS COOLEST OVERNIGHT TEMPS WED NIGHT WILL BE IN NERN FA. WILL GO
CLOSER TO MAV NUMBERS. ON THU WILL GO A LITTLE MORE OPTIMISTIC WITH
MOSUNNY SKIES...BUT LATER SHIFTS WILL NEED TO WATCH AS MODELS UNSURE
OF TRACK OF UPPER SYSTEM. WITH MORE SUNSHINE WILL LEAN TOWARD WARMER
MET NUMBERS.
