WESTERN MONTANA AND NORTH CENTRAL IDAHO FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MISSOULA MT
300 PM MDT TUE JUN 18 2002

.SHORT TERM...UPPER LOW OVER CENTRAL WASHINGTON WITH A DECENT UPPER
LEVEL DISTURBANCE IN THE BASE OF THE TROF WILL BE THE FOCUSING
MECHANISM FOR THIS EVENINGS WEATHER. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS OVER
EASTERN WASHINGTON AND THE IDAHO PANHANDLE THIS AFTERNOON
ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE SUN BREAKS AND UPPER LEVEL COLD CORE MOVING
INTO THE REGION DESTABILIZING THE ATMOSPHERE. EXPECT SCATTERED
CONVECTION THROUGH MUCH OF THE EVENING...WITH THE THUNDERSTORMS
DECREASING AFTER SUNSET. ALSO...THERE IS SOME DECENT CYCLOGENESIS
OVER LEMHI COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON. COMBINE THAT WITH SCATTERED
CONVECTION AND THE 50 KT WINDS AT 700 MB WILL HAVE NO TROUBLE
MIXING DOWN. WILL THEREFORE ISSUE A HIGH WIND WARNING FOR LEMHI
COUNTY THIS EVENING. THE UPPER LOW WILL WEAKEN INTO A UPPER TROF
LATE EVENING...SLOWING THE NORTHEAST PROGRESSION OF THE
AFOREMENTIONED VORT MAX. THIS WILL KEEP SCATTERED SHOWERS FROM
MISSOULA NORTHWARD OVERNIGHT. ANTI-CYCLONIC FLOW WILL BE OVER THE
REGION WEDNESDAY WITH WEAK DISTURBANCES MAINLY OVER THE NORTHERN
PORTION OF THE REGION. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN ON THE COOL SIDE...
BUT WARMER THAN TODAYS READINGS. WITH MORE SURFACE HEATING...ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS CAN ONCE AGAIN BE EXPECTED. WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND
THURSDAY THE REGION WILL BE UNDER A SPLIT FLOW AS A LOW DEVELOPS OFF
THE OREGON COAST. DRY AND MILD CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED. LATE
THURSDAY SOUTHWEST FLOW MOVES OVER THE REGION AND SOME ENERGY FROM
THE LOW OFF THE OREGON COAST GETS MOVED INTO THE SOUTHERN REGION OF
THE FORECAST AREA. THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY AS THE UPPER LOW DIGS
DOWN THE CALIFORNIA COAST...A 700 MB LOW DEVELOPS OVER CENTRAL IDAHO
AND TRACK NORTHEAST. THIS WILL BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF SHOWERS TO THE
REGION. MEAD

.LONG TERM...00Z MRF/CANADIAN AND 12Z AVN IN REASONABLE AGREEMENT
WITH A SLOWER SOLUTION IN THE EXTENDED. THE EURO IS THE OUT-LIER
WITH A MORE PROGRESSIVE PATTERN. WILL GO WITH THE MAJORITY. RIDGE
OVER WRN CANADA AMPLIFIES STRONGLY ON SAT WITH WEAKENING TROF
TRYING IN VAIN TO MOVE THROUGH NRN ROCKIES INTO THE RIDGE.
PRECIP SHOULD STAY EAST OF THE DIVIDE. SUNDAY LOOKS LIKE THE WARMEST
DAY FOR US AS RIDGE PUMPS UP AHEAD OF NEXT TROF DIGGING OVER PACNW
COAST. WILL TAKE PRECIP OUT FOR SUNDAY. PROGS NOW FAVOR THE LOW
CUTTING OFF OVER NRN CALIFORNIA ON MON/TUE WITH ONLY MODEST COOLING
FOR US. STILL LOOKS POTENTIALLY WET EARLY NEXT WEEK AS MODELS HINTING
AT SOME DECENT CONVECTION. WILL HAVE CHC POPS FOR SHOWERS/THUNDER
MON/TUE BUT BUMP TEMPS UP SOME. WRIGHT

.MSO...HIGH WIND WARNING IDZ09-010 THIS EVENING.
