AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KANSAS CITY/PLEASANT HILL MO
200 AM CDT TUE JUN 18 2002

CURRENTLY WATCHING TWO BATCHES OF PCPN ON RADAR/SAT...BOTH OF WHICH
SHUD NARROWLY MISS CWA. THE FIRST IS BETWEEN SERN NEB AND NERN
KS...WHICH CORFIDI VECTORS SHOW CONTINUING TO THE SSE. THIS MAY
JUST HIT THE EDGES OF EXTREME WESTERN AND SOUTHWESTERN CWA. THE
SECOND BATCH OF RAIN IS UP IN IA...AND DUE TO LACK OF MAJOR
STEERING...THIS SHOULD STAY NEARLY STATIONARY...AND THEN VERY SLOWLY
MOVE ESE.

KIND OF DIGGING THE AVN THIS MORNING WHICH HAS A BETTER HANDLE ON
ONGOING PCPN. HAVE KEPT IN LOW CHC POPS FOR TODAY. SHOULD SEE
LLVL JET WHICH WILL KEEP THE WINDS BREEZY. AVN PROGS A VORT MAX AND
7H WAVE TO GO OVER THE SWRN PORTIONS OF FA AND HAS H3 DIVERGENCE
ALONG WITH. WHILE MAJOR SFC FEATURES ARE LACKING...AN OUTFLOW
BOUNDARY IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. THERE IS ALSO SOME 7-8 DEG
LAPSE RATES ESP IN WRN FA WHICH MAY ALLOW SOME SCT TSRA TO FIRE IN
THE HEAT OF THE DAY. HAVE GONE A LITTLE ABV GUID...EXPECTING TEMPS
SIMILAR TO THOSE OF MON.

NOT MUCH GOING ON AFT THAT AS LOW IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST GETS IT
TOGETHER. BY MID WEEK...SFC FRONT STALLS JUST TO THE NORTH. HAVE
ADDED IN SOME CLOUDS...BUT FEEL THAT THE NORTHERN ZONES SHOULD STAY
DRY. AS FRONT MOVES BACK NORTH...LATEST MRF LOOKS LIKE IT MIGHT WASH
OUT AROUND CWA IN THE SUN/MON TIMEFRAME. HAVE RETAINED POPS FOR MON.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KANSAS CITY-PLEASANT HILL MO
550 AM CDT TUE JUN 18 2002

* HAZARDS EXPECTED -
ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH MID MORNING IN LOCATIONS
MAINLY SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 36. HAIL IS THE MAIN THREAT. SOME STORMS
MAY REDEVELOP LATER THIS AFTERNOON. WHILE WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER
IS NOT EXPECTED...A FEW STORMS THIS AFTERNOON MAY BECOME STRONG WITH
PEA SIZE HAIL AND WIND GUSTS TO 45 MPH POSSIBLE.

* SPOTTER ACTIVATION -
MAY BE NEEDED FOR A SHORT TIME THIS MORNING...AND ARE NOT
ANTICIPATED THIS AFTERNOON.

DISCUSSION: LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND A WEAK UPPER LEVEL IMPULSE HAVE
WORKED TOGETHER TO INITIATE A FEW THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS EASTERN
KANSAS AND WESTERN MISSOURI THIS MORNING. AS THESE STORMS MOVE
SOUTH AND EAST...THEY WILL GET FARTHER AWAY FROM THE UNSTABLE
AIR...WHERE THEY ARE EXPECTED TO LOSE THEIR INTENSITY AND GRADUALLY
TAPER OFF. THESE STORMS MAY LEAVE SOME OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES THAT MAY
BE THE SOURCE FOR ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT THIS AFTERNOON.
