SUMMARY...

HEAVY RAINS MAINLY ON KAUAI ON OAHU TONIGHT BUT WET
CONDITIONS LIKELY TO CONTINUE UNTIL WEDNESDAY. DRIER WINDIER TRADE
WINDS WILL THEN FOLLOW.

DISCUSSION...HEAVY SHOWERS ARE FALLING OVER PARTS OF KAUAI AND OAHU
THIS EVENING. MORE HEAVY RAINFALL IS MOVING UP FROM THE SOUTH AND
SOUTHEAST UNDERNEATH A HEAVY MID AND HIGH LEVEL CLOUD COVER AS WELL
AND THIS PROMISES TO KEEP HEAVY SHOWERS AND POSSIBLE THUNDERSTORMS
OVER BOTH ISLANDS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS. THE FLOOD WATCH WILL
BE CONTINUED THROUGH THE NIGHT FOR BOTH OF THESE ISLANDS. SHOWERS
ARE ALSO OCCURRING OVER PORTIONS OF THE BIG ISLAND...AND
THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THERE AS WELL.

COMPUTER MODELS INDICATE THE CONTINUING THREAT OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE STATE THROUGH WEDNESDAY AS A KONA LOW REMAINS
CLOSE BY TO THE WEST OF KAUAI THROUGH TUESDAY...THEN MOVES SLOWLY
OFF TO THE WEST. FROM WEDNESDAY ON...STRONG HIGH PRESSURE TO OUR
NORTHEAST WILL PUSH TRADE WINDS BACK IN OVER THE ISLANDS...AS THE
SURFACE TROUGH MOVES WESTWARD WITH THE UPPER LOW. A TURN TO MORE OF
A WINDWARD TRADE WIND SHOWER PATTERN WILL ACCOMPANY THE RETURN OF
THE TRADE WINDS BEGINNING ON WEDNESDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL REMAIN
QUITE HEAVY AT FIRST...BUT SHOULD TAPER OFF BY THE WEEKEND...WITH
SUNNIER SKIES REPLACING THE THICK CLOUDS OF THE PAST WEEK OR SO.
