SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST COLORADO AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PUEBLO COLORADO

MAIN CONCERN IS PRECIP CHANCES.

THE PERSISTENT UPPER LOW WILL REMAIN OVER THE PACIFIC NW TODAY WITH
AN UPPER RIDGE CENTERED NEAR THE NM/AZ/MEX BORDER AREA. NOT MUCH
FOR UPPER DYNAMICS EXPECTED TODAY OVER THE FORECAST AREA...BUT
SUSPECT THAT LINGERING MOISTURE AND DAYTIME HEATING AND LEFT OVER
BOUNDARIES ON THE EASTERN PLAINS WILL RESULT IN SLIGHT CHANCE POPS
TODAY. THE NEXT SHORTWAVE TO AFFECT THE AREA MOVES IN THIS EVENING
AND CONTINUES AFFECTING THE AREA INTO MIDDAY SATURDAY. WILL NOT PUT
ANY TIMERS ON PRECIP TONIGHT. THE BEST MOISTURE TONIGHT WILL BE OVER
EASTERN AREAS AND THIS IS WHERE I WILL HAVE THE HIGHEST POPS...AND
WILL HAVE ISOLATED POPS OVER WESTERN AREAS WHERE IT APPEARS TO BE A
BIT DRIER. AS FOR TEMPS TODAY...MODELS ARE SHOWING A LITTLE WARMING
AT 700MB AND BELOW SO WILL GENERALLY GO A LITTLE WARMER THAN
YESTERDAY AND NEAR GUIDANCE. UNSETTLED WX CONTINUES SAT WITH ONE
SHORTWAVE MOVING EAST AFTER MIDDAY AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER WEAK
SHORTWAVE MOVING IN FROM THE WEST LATER IN THE DAY...BUT BY AFTERNOON
IT LOOKS FAIRLY DRY OVER WESTERN AREAS AND WILL KEEP THE FORECAST
DRY. LOOKS LIKE SOME COOLER AIR WILL BRUSH THE FAR EASTERN ZONES ON
SATURDAY...BUT IT MAY NOT MAKE IT VERY FAR WEST. THUS WILL GO WITH
COOLER TEMPS FAR EASTERN PLAINS AND WILL NOT COOL TEMPS OVER WESTERN
PORTIONS OF THE PLAINS...AND WILL KEEP TEMPS OVER THE WESTERN
PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA ABOUT THE SAME AS TODAY.

SUNDAY THE UPPER LOW OVER THE PACIFIC NW WEAKENS WITH A CHUNK OF IT
MOVING INTO MT. ETA AND AVN ARE IN BETTER AGREEMENT TODAY FOR
SUNDAYS WX...WITH THE AVN COMING AROUND THE ETA SOLUTION...BUILDING
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER CO. DRY FORECAST FOR THE WEST STILL LOOKS
GOOD...AND AM RELUCTANT TO MAKE CHANGES TO THE DRY FORECAST FOR THE
EAST AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER THE AVN IS HINTING AT SOME LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE ALONG THE KS BORDER SUNDAY AND UPSLOPE ON THE EASTERN
PLAINS.

THE RIDGE OVER THE AREA GETS FLATTENED SOMEWHAT ON MONDAY BY AN
UPPER LOW CENTERED OVER THE SASK/ND/MT BORDER AREA WITH A TROUGH
EXTENDING TO CENTRAL CA. LITTLE CHANGE IN THE PATTERN IS EXPECTED
TUESDAY. PROBABLY ENOUGH MOISTURE ACROSS THE AREA FOR SLIGHT CHANCE
POPS ALL AREAS. WED UPPER TROUGH MOVES INTO THE PLAINS STATES WITH
THE RIDGE BUILDING A LITTLE OVER CO AND A FRONT MOVING INTO THE
EASTERN CO PLAINS. THE UPPER RIDGE THEN REMAINS OVER THE AREA
THU. WED LOOKS LIKE THE BEST CHANCE FOR PRECIP ON THE EASTERN PLAINS
IN THE PERIOD MON THROUGH THU. OVER WESTERN AREAS IT SHOULD BE
RELATIVELY DRY BUT SLIGHT CHANCES FOR PRECIP EACH DAY CANNOT BE RULED
OUT.
