EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA 1015 AM PST FRI JAN 11 2002 .SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE GREAT BASIN WILL RESULT IN SANTA ANA CONDITIONS WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS WITH SUNNY...WARM DAYS AND CLEAR COOL NIGHTS TODAY AND SATURDAY. OCCASIONAL GUSTY WINDS THROUGH MOUNTAIN PASSES CANYONS AND PASSES WILL DIMINISH THIS AFTERNOON. .DISCUSSION...WINDS HAVE DECREASED THIS MORNING AND HAVE DROPPED BELOW ADV AND WARNING LEVELS. HOWEVER...ENOUGH OFFSHORE GRADIENTS AND MID LEVEL WIND SUPPORT AVAILABLE TO PRODUCE WINDS FROM 20 TO 30 MPH IN SOME OF THE MTN PASSES TODAY. BEST SUPPORT LOOKS TO BE OVER SAN DIEGO COUNTY AND ITS EAST-WEST PASSES...PARTICULARLY AROUND CAMPO AND ALONG INTERSTATE 8. UPPER RIDGE WILL BEGIN TO BREAK DOWN OVER THE WEEKEND AS WEAK IMPULSES MOVE IN FROM THE PACIFIC. NEVERTHELESS...IT WILL BE REMAIN DRY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WITH SUNNY WARM DAYS AND CLEAR COOL NIGHTS. ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY A STRONGER UPPER LOW OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL DIG SOUTH. THIS INSIDE SLIDER WONT HAVE MUCH MOISTURE TO WORK WITH SO IT WILL LIKELY REMAIN DRY NEXT WEEK. WHAT IT WILL DO IS BRING COOLER WEATHER ALONG WITH GUSTY WINDS...AND A GOOD CHANCE FOR ANOTHER SANTA ANA TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.
