SOUTH/SOUTHWEST ALASKA FORECAST DISCUSSION 1045 AM ADT TUE SEP 24 2002 ANALYSIS/FORECASTS...TWO MAJOR SYSTEMS TO DEAL WITH THIS MORNING. THE FIRST IS A 1005 MB LOW NEAR 55N 155W. THIS LOW IS MOVING RAPIDLY NORTH TODAY AND SHOULD END UP IN THE SOUTHERN KUSKOKWIM VALLEY THIS EVENING AND THEN MOVE NORTHEAST TO NEAR FAIRBANKS BY THIS TIME TOMORROW. THE AVN MODEL SEEMS TO HAVE A BETTER LOCK ON THIS LOW THAN DOES THE ETA...ESPECIALLY WITH THE AVN KEEPING THE SURFACE LOW CENTER FARTHER EAST THAN THE ETA DOES. THE LOW MAY TRACK A LITTLE FARTHER EAST THAN EVEN THE AVN HAS IT. THERE IS A LOW OF WARM AND MOIST AIR WITH THIS SYSTEM. A SMALL STREAM ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SEWARD AREA TODAY. SECOND SYSTEM IS THE FIRST MAJOR ALEUTIAN LOW OF THE SEASON. THIS LOW IS CURRENTLY AROUND 970 MB AT 49N 174E. IT IS EXPECTED TO MOVE TO NEAR ADAK AND STRENGTHEN TO ABOUT 960 MB OVERNIGHT.
