High Wind in Alaska, March 2, 2002
A strong 968 mb low curved northwest, from the northwest Pacific, into the Komandorskiye Islands of Russia late Saturday. The front associated with this storm elongated north and east into the central Aleutians just west of Adak at 9 pm AST Saturday, stalling there then dissipating by 9 am AST Sunday.

A strong 968 mb low curved northwest, from the northwest Pacific, into the Komandorskiye Islands of Russia late Saturday. The front associated with this storm elongated north and east into the central Aleutians just west of Adak at 9 pm AST Saturday, stalling there then dissipating by 9 am AST Sunday. Strong south and southeast winds were observed in advance of the front, while strong southwest winds followed the storm center. A second storm near the Kamchatka Peninsula and its front brought another round of strong south winds to the extreme western Aleutians Sunday. Strong southeast winds were observed across the extreme western Aleutians Saturday as the storm system and front moved through the area. Observations were missing from noon through 10 pm AST Saturday, however gusts of 67 mph were actually observed at the automated site at Shemya.
