The visibility was reduced below 1/4 of a mile with snow and blowing snow at Kotzebue for several hours. The blizzard conditions were the result of a low pressure center and an associated surface front. As the surface low moved northward from the central Bering Sea, the corresponding surface front moved over Kotzebue sound. Snow and strong winds along the front produced blowing snow that reduced visibility to as low as 1/8 of a mile.
