AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BLACKSBURG, VA

MAIN FORECAST WORDING FOR NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS IS SUMMER RETURNS.
THIS AFTN...STABLE AIR IN PLACE PER 17Z MSAS OVER MOST OF THE
FA...WITH AN INSTABILITY AXIS OVER THE MTNS OF WRN NC. REGIONAL
RADAR COMPOSITE SHOWS SOME CONVECTION FIRING IN UPSTATE SC. NOT AS
MUCH CU TODAY AS YESTERDAY AT THIS TIME. QUESTION TONIGHT...IS
ETA/AVN RIGHT IN POPS OVER THE WEST. WV LOOP SHOWS S/W DIVING TWD MO
AND IS PROGGED TO WEAKEN AS IT MOVES EAST OVERNIGHT. DESPITE
THIS...MODELS BRING UNSTABLE AIR NWD...AS LOW LEVEL WINDS VEER TO
THE SOUTHWEST BY 12Z. AFTER COORD WITH GSP...WILL LEAVE POPS OUT FOR
NRN MTNS...ALTHOUGH WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED THAT AN ISOLATED SHRA
DEVELOPS OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY. EVENING SHIFT CAN NOWCAST IT OR
UPDATE IF NEED BE.

MON...MODELS IN GENERAL AGREEMENT AT 5H BRINGING "ALLISON" INTO
GA/AL VICINITY THROUGH TUESDAY. AVN I BELIEVE IS OVERBLOWING PCPN
CHANCES IN THE EAST MONDAY...WITH WESTERLY FLOW AND WARMING ALOFT
AND NO SENSIBLE TRIGGER...WILL NOT PUT POPS IN. AS "ALLISON" GETS
CLOSER...WEST TO NW LOW LVL FLOW WILL INCREASE...AND GOOD SUBSIDENCE
ON NRN FRINGE SHOULD LEAD TO HOT TEMPS EAST OF THE BLUE RIDGE
TUESDAY. SO AM GOING WITH MAV TEMPS OF LOW 90S IN THIS AREA.

AS FAR AS WHEN PCPN ARRIVES...THINK AVN MAY BE TOO FAST GIVEN
STRENGTH OF RIDGE IN AREA...AND NOT MUCH STEERING ALOFT. WILL HOLD
OFF ON CHANCES AND PLACE THEM IN THE WEST WEDNESDAY...AS I BELIEVE
BEST DYNAMICS AND MOISTURE WILL BE CONFINED TO THE MTNS. WILL KEEP A
CHANCE AROUND THURSDAY AND FRIDAY IN THE WEST. LOOKS LIKE BEST LIFT
AND DYNAMICS WILL BE WELL NORTH BY SATURDAY TO TO KEEP THINGS DRY
WITH FRONT SLOWING DOWN OVER THE OH VLY. IF ANYTHING...WIDELY SCTD
TSRA...BUT NOT ENOUGH TO PUT IN ZONES THAT FAR OUT. STILL GOING TO
BE WARM TO HOT AND HUMID. DEPENDING ON EXTENT OF CLD COVER WED FROM
ALLISON...TEMPS MAY NOT GET OUT OF THE 70S IN THE MTNS...AND WILL
CUT HIGHS BACK A BIT.

THANKS FOR THE COORD GSP.
