SYNOPSIS...A STORM SYSTEM CONTINUES TO MOVE THROUGH CENTRAL AND
SOUTHERN UTAH THIS MORNING. A COOL NORTHWEST FLOW WILL CONTINUE OVER
THE STATE THROUGH FRIDAY WITH A DRYING AND WARMING TREND THIS
WEEKEND.
DISCUSSION...NO UPDATES TO THE FORECAST THIS MORNING. THE SNOW
ADVISORY FOR NORTHERN MOUNTAINS VERIFIED QUITE NICELY WITH 2-6
INCHES GENERALLY OCCURRING. AUTOMATED SNOW STAKES IN THE COTTONWOOD
CANYONS SHOWED AMOUNTS CLOSER TO 8 INCHES.
TODAYS SHORTWAVE IS ALREADY OVER CENTRAL UTAH AND WILL MOVE
EAST FROM OUR AREA BY MID AFTERNOON. WIDELY SCATTERED INSTABILITY
SHOWERS WILL LINGER INTO THE AFTERNOON ACROSS THE STATE. FINALLY BY
THIS EVENING STRONG SUBSIDENCE WILL DEVELOP WITH CLEARING SKIES. THE
CURRENT FORECAST HANDLES ALL OF THIS VERY WELL INCLUDING TODAYS
EXPECTED NORTH-NORTHWEST WINDS.
FRIDAY A MOIST NORTHWEST FLOW WILL REMAIN OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF
UTAH. A BRUSH-BY SHORTWAVE MOVES THROUGH SOUTHEAST IDAHO IN THE
AFTERNOON FOR A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. WEST-NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BE
GUSTY ACROSS NORTHERN UTAH LATE TOMORROW AS THAT SHORTWAVE SWEEPS
THROUGH. ACROSS THE SOUTH MILD TEMPERATURES AND MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES
ARE EXPECTED.
SATURDAY STILL LOOKS DRY BUT NOT AS COOL AS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT. THE
ARCTIC FRONT AND ITS BLUSTERY INFLUENCE IS NOW PROGGED TO STAY EAST
OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE. THE NEW ETA SHOWS H7 TEMPS AT -6C ACROSS
NORTHERN UTAH. THE NORTHERLY PRESSURE GRADIENT IS NOW PROGGED TO BE
CLOSER TO 8-9MB SURFACE SATURDAY AFTERNOON WITH 10-20 KNOTS AT H7.
GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS STILL LOOK LIKELY FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS
EARLY SATURDAY...BUT THE VALLEYS LOOK MORE BREEZY (15-25 MPH) THAN
