SYNOPSIS...A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH NORTHWEST UTAH
TONIGHT WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING. SOUTHERN UTAH
WILL STAY DRY AND WARM.

DISCUSSION...FORECAST STILL LOOKS ON TRACK FOR A STRONG COLD FRONT
TO SWEEP THROUGH NORTHERN UTAH TONIGHT. THE SURFACE FRONT IS
CURRENTLY NEAR A BURLEY-WELLS LINE. IT LOOKS AS IF IT WILL MOVE
THROUGH THE WASATCH FRONT SHORTLY BEFORE MIDNIGHT. SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ARE STILL EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS NORTHWEST UTAH.
WITH THE VERTICAL WIND SHEAR PROFILE...MID LEVEL DRY SLOT AND STRONG
DIVERGENCE ALOFT...SOME STORMS WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE
MICROBURST WINDS AND HAIL.

A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD CONTINUE ALONG THE COLD
FRONT IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN UTAH SUNDAY. GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS AND
WARM CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTHERN UTAH AHEAD OF THE
FRONT. COOLER TEMPERATURES WITH BREEZY NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED
BEHIND IT IN NORTHERN UTAH TOMORROW.

A SHORTWAVE RIDGE DEVELOPS OVER UTAH MONDAY FOR DRY CONDITIONS AND A
TEMPORARY 5-10 DEGREE WARMUP. WINDS SHOULD BE LIGHT BUT WILL BEGIN
TO BACK AHEAD OF OUR NEXT COLD FRONTAL SYSTEM.

THE AVN CONTINUES TO SWEEP A VERY STRONG POLAR FRONT INTO NORTHERN
UTAH LATE TUESDAY. WINDY CONDITIONS SHOULD OCCUR STATEWIDE.
INTRODUCED A CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP TUESDAY
AS THAT COLD FRONT IS PROGGED TO MOVE IN. THIS COULD BE ANOTHER
POTENTIAL SEVERE STORM DAY.

BEYOND TUESDAY DECIDED TO CONTINUE WITH THE IDEA OF COOLER UNSETTLED
WEATHER OVER UTAH INTO FRIDAY. IF THE LOW CUTS OFF NEAR LAS VEGAS AS
THE LATEST AVN RUN SHOWS...A CANYON WIND EVENT IS EVEN POSSIBLE
THURSDAY MORNING ALONG THE WASATCH FRONT. WE'LL FINE TUNE THE
DETAILS ON THIS SYSTEM ONCE WE GET THROUGH TONIGHTS.

Microburst wind gusts estimated at around 80mph (70kts) hit the Trenton and Smithfield areas during the evening hours. These winds ripped the metal roof off of an 88-foot hay barn and carried it for a block. Several trees were also blown over and power lines were blown down.
