The episode as NWS SJT wrote it up.
A cold front pushing into West Central Texas spawned a series of severe thunderstorms on the 12th. The storms initially developed across the eastern Big Country during the afternoon, but gradually spread across the remainder of the area during the evening hours. Hail up to the size of golf balls broke windows and automobile windshields in Cross Plains in southeast Callahan County. Golf ball size hail was also seen near Melvin in western McCulloch County, near Miles in Runnels County, and near Bangs in western Brown County. The same storm that dropped the large hail in Bangs left golf ball size hail 8 inches deep in Brownwood. In addition to the hail, an apparent downburst struck Brady in McCulloch County, downing trees across the city.
