SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 1015 AM CST THU NOV 15 2001 DID NOT MAKE MANY IF ANY CHANGES TO PREVIOUS FORECASTS EXCEPT TO EXTEND THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH THROUGH TONIGHT BASED ON SYNOPTIC SITUATION CONTINUING THE THREAT FOR HEAVY RAINFALL...QUITE POSSIBLY EVEN INTO OR THROUGH FRIDAY. EVEN THOUGH IT APPEARS THE BEST POTENTIAL FOR ADVERSE WEATHER THIS AFTERNOON WILL BE FROM HEAVY RAINFALL...FLASH FLOODING AND RIVER FLOODING...WEVE ALREADY RECEIVED REPORTS OF FUNNEL CLOUDS...SOME EVEN TOUCHING GROUND. THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON IN SUCH A PATTERN WHERE THE ATMOSPHERE IS EXTREMELY TROPICAL IN NATURE AND EXTREMELY UNSTABLE. SUCH FUNNEL CLOUDS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE AND INJURY IF THEY TOUCH DOWN. MIGHT BE WORTH MENTIONING THIS IS WINTER WEATHER AWARENESS DAY IN TEXAS...EVEN THOUGH WE MAY BE CONCENTRATING ON SOME NON-WINTER TYPES OF WEATHER. A second and more intense Karnes County tornado touched down west of Karnes City near the Wilson County line. Rated F1, it destroyed a trailer, a metal barn, and literally hundreds of trees as it moved northeast for just over two miles.
