COASTAL BEND FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CORPUS CHRISTI TX 930 AM CST WED MAR 28 2001 CONVECTION IS REALLY BEGINNING TO FIRE UP ACROSS THE CWFA. THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO THE LFQ OF AN APPROACHING STRONG SUBTROPICAL JET MOVING THROUGH NRN MEXICO AND EXTREME DEEP SOUTH TX. ALSO...WV IMAGERY DEPICTED A WELL-DEFINED VORT MAX TO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE BIG BEND RGN. MEANWHILE...THE FNTL BNDRY WAS MOVING EVER SO SLOWLY SEWD THROUGH THE OFFSHORE WATERS. ALL OF THESE FACTORS LEAD TO INCREASING POPS ONCE AGAIN FOR THE ENTIRE CWFA. THE NEXT ISSUE TO DEAL WITH IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SVR STORMS. WBZ HEIGHTS ARE EXPECTED TO SLOWLY FALL TODAY AS HEIGHTS FALL AND THE COLUMN COOLS. BOTH THE CRP AND DRT SOUNDINGS INDICATED MID LVL DRY AIR WITH DECENT MID LVL LAPSE RATES AS WELL. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW STORMS TURNING SVR WITH HAIL AND WIND THE MAIN THREATS. WL LKLY ISSUE AN SPS AND MAY ALSO MENTION THIS IN THE ZONES. WL NEED TO REDUCE TEMPS AT LEAST A CATEGORY OR TWO GIVEN THE THICK CLOUDS AND THE COOL AIRMASS CURRENTLY IN PLACE. MARINE...WL GROUP THE NEARSHORE AND OFFSHORE WATERS TOGETHER SINCE THE FNTL BNDRY XHAS ALREADY MADE IT THROUGH THE OFFSHORE WATERS. WL STILL MAINTAIN AN SCA DUE TO HIGH SWELLS.
