STORY TODAY WILL BE WINDS IN THE 20-30 MPH RANGE WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
THERE MAY BE A COUPLE OF HOURS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS MAY GET SLIGHTLY
ABOVE 30 MPH BUT IT SHOULD NOT CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS. NO ADVISORY
PLANNED. LOOKING AT WIND DECISION TREE...LIFTED INDICES ARE WELL
ABOVE 4 C WHICH SUPPORT 20-30 MPH THINKING. SFC HIGH PRESSURE WILL
BUILD INTO THE REGION TODAY. WIND SHOULD SUBSIDE AFTER SUNSET AROUND
5-10 MPH. FRIDAY WILL BE DRY AS WELL. THE NEXT SHORTWAVE TO AFFECT
THE REGION WILL BE MOVING INTO UTAH THROUGH FRI EVENING. SHOULD SEE
AN INCREASE IN HIGHER CLOUDS THROUGH THE DAY FRI. ETA DEEPENS
SHORTWAVE INTO A CLOSED LOW OVER SOUTHWESTERN COLORADO BY SAT
MORNING. POSITION OF LOW WILL BRING A CHANCE OF SHOWERS OR
THUNDERSTORMS TO THE AREA MAYBE AS EARLY AS FRI NIGHT. PREVIOUS
FORECAST HANDLES THE MENTION OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SAT AND
INTO SUN. NO CHANGES TO EXTENDED.

An area of low pressure rapidly deepened over western Kansas in response to a strong upper level disturbance moving into the Plains. The pressure gradient strengthened over the Southern Plains with the western extent of the high surface winds occurring over the extreme southeastern Panhandle and northern Rolling Plains. Sustained wind of 40 to 45 mph was measured at KCDS for several hours with gusts reaching 56 mph. A few power lines and small tree limbs were blown down by the strong wind.
