WATER VAPOR IMAGERY DEPICTS DEEPEST MOISTURE PLUME OFF THE CAROLINAS
...AHEAD OF A S/WV ACROSS WRN SC/NRN GA. ETA HAS A GOOD HANDLE ON
THIS MINOR SYSTEM...W/ A TRACK INTO SC THIS MORNING THEN OFF THE
COAST...S OF THE FA BY 18Z TODAY. MEANWHILE THE COLD FRONT APPEARS
TO BE ACROSS CENTRAL VA EXTENDING WSW INTO S CENTRAL KY...AND SFC
TROF WAS IN PLACE E OF THE MTNS.
UPPER ANTICYCLONE WILL DOMINANT THE WX PICTURE ACROSS MUCH OF THE
PLAINS AND MS VALLEY THIS CYCLE. IN TURN...THIS PATTERN WILL DIRECT
S/WVS TO DROP ACROSS THE ERN US...SOME SPURIOUS...SOME NOT. ONE OF
THESE S/WVS WILL MOVE ACROSS ERN NC LATER TODAY...W/ AN OVERALL
SHIFT OF THE UPPER TROF AXIS OFF THE COAST LATER TODAY. WILL NEED TO
HOLD ONTO POPS UNTIL THIS OCCURS...AND POP-WISE THE NGM ALWAYS SEEMS
CLOSEFISTED WITH ENERGY COMING FROM THE NW. A BLEND OF POPS WILL
WORK BEST TODAY SINCE DEEPEST MOISTURE IS E OF HERE. AGREE W/ MHX
THAT SOME OF THE STORMS TODAY COULD REACH SEVERE LIMITS GIVEN THE
AMOUNT OF CAPE SHOWN BY THE ETA/MESO-ETA. AVN/ETA ALSO VERY GENEROUS
W/ LIS LESS THAN -6C THIS AFTERNOON.
DISPARITY CONTINUES AS TO WHERE THE FRONT ENDS UP...W/ THE AVN STILL
PUSHING IT THROUGH A GOOD PART OF THE FA. AT ANY RATE... BOTH AGREE
THAT THIS BOUNDARY WILL WASH-OUT PRETTY QUICK SAT. TIME HEIGHT CROSS
SECTIONS NOTE DECENT DRYING (ESP ABV H7) IN PLACE BY TONIGHT SO I DO
NOT THINK POPS WILL BE NEEDED BEYOND THE EARLY EVENING TIME FRAME.
NOT SURE WHAT THE ETA IS TRYING TO DO BY PAINTING QPF BACK ACROSS
THE REGION SAT NIGHT (TOO FAST?). APPEARS THE CHANCE OF RAIN WILL
INCREASE MORE-SO SUN AS THE NEXT SYSTEM APPROACHES FROM THE NW. THE
AVN HANGS UP THE NEXT FRONT ALONG THE COAST THE FIRST PART OF NEXT
WEEK...THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE THE BEST FOCUS OF RAFL WILL BE OFF THE
COAST. I WILL HOLD ONTO SLIGHT CHANCES TUE...THEN NIL POPS WED AND
THU.
CWF: I PLAN ON INITIALIZING W/ SMALL CRAFT SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION.
I WILL INCLUDE THE SC MARINE ZONES AS WELL BASED ON THE SPRING MAID
PIER OB. SPEEDS SHOULD DIMINISH DURING THE DAY...AND W/ FRONT MOVING
INTO THE REGION A VARIABLE WIND FCST MIGHT BE BEST FOR TONIGHT AND
PART OF SAT. WILL START SEAS OFF AT 5 FT TODAY...THEN DECREASE THEM
IN LINE W/ THE WAVEWATCH III. STILL ABOUT A 2 AND A HALF FT SWELL
OUT THERE W/ A LOT OF CHOP THROWN ON TO IT.
FCSTID = 29

As a weak cold front moved south into an afternoon sea breeze boundary, slow-moving thunderstorms developed along the Horry county coast. An F0 tornado briefly touched down at 9th Ave N near the Myrtle Beach Pavilion, and soon after a waterspout formed just off the beach near 3rd Ave N. It slightly damaged the 2nd Ave N pier and then moved over the beach as it developed more strongly, causing F2 damage - overturned buses and extensive damage to vehicles and hotels along the beach to about 4nd Ave S. Moving off the beach again, the waterspout continued south about 100 yards from the shore until it came ashore between 28th Ave S and Springmaid Pier...causing a 66 knot gust over water at the Springmaid Pier anemometer. As it moved through the Seagate RV park, it did F1 damage - destroyed 10 RVs and damaged 40 more. Weakening further, the tornado crossed US Hwy Business 17 onto Myrtle Beach International Airport, doing F0 damage to trees and structures.
