A tropical wave caused strong thunderstorms with gusty winds across the south and southwest sections of Puerto Rico during the afternoon. These winds knocked down trees and power lines in many municipalities. Wind reports from a spotter in Lajas indicated wind gusts near 50 mph, at Ponce airport wind gusts were between 40 to 46 mph and in Juana Diaz the University wind sensor recorded winds of 48 mph.

STABLE CONDITIONS ARE AT MID TO UPPER LEVELS WITH WEAK HIGH
DOMINATING...ALSO REFLECTED IN SOUNDING WITH A STRONG CAP AT ROUGHLY
650 MB. BUT LOW TO MID LEVELS SUGGEST UNSTABLE CONDITIONS...WITH
APPROACHING CONVECTION AHEAD OF WAVE ALONG A WIND SURGE WHICH IS
CLEARLY EVIDENT IN SATELLITE IMAGERY. AFTER MUCH ANALYSIS IT LOOKS
AS THOUGH THE UNSTABLE CONDITIONS WILL DOMINATE. THE CONVECTION

TO FORECAST AREA. TIMING IS ALWAYS DIFFICULT IN THESE
SCENARIOS...BUT IT LOOKS LIKE MAIN CONVECTION ALONG SURGE WOULD
REACH THE U.S.V.I. SOMEWHERE AROUND 18Z AND THEN AROUND 21Z EASTERN
SECTIONS OF P.R. IN ADDITION...LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND SHOWERS AHEAD
