NORTHEAST OREGON/SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PENDLETON OR 820 AM PDT FRI JUN 1 2001 THERMAL TROUGH IS BETWEEN PDT AND ALW MOVING SLOWLY EAST. THE FRONT IS WEST OF THE CASCADES WITH THE MAIN CLOUD SHIELD NOW MOVING INLAND OVER WESTERN OREGON AND WASHINGTON. THERE IS SOME ACCAS AT PDT INDICATING INSTABILITY AND TURBULENCE ALOFT. THERE ARE SOME SHOWERS ON THE PDT RADAR OVER WASHINGTON BUT NO INDICATION THAT THE SHOWERS ARE REACHING THE GROUND AT THIS TIME. TIMING OF THE SYSTEM BRINGS THE COLD FRONT OVER THE CASCADES THIS MORNING AND THEN TO THE IDAHO BORDER BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE ATMOSPHERE WILL BE UNSTABLE BUT WILL BE LIMITED BY MOISTURE. SW FLOW ALOFT WILL FEED SOME MOISTURE INTO THE SYSTEM...BUT THE MAIN IMPACT WILL BE INCREASING WINDS. WINDS ARE ALREADY OVER 25 MPH AT DLS...WHERE FUNNELING THROUGH THE GORGE ENHANCES THE PRESSURE GRADIENT. WINDS WILL INCREASE TO THE WINDY CATEGORY OVER THE KITTITAS VALLEY...LOWER COLUMBIA BASIN AND BLUE MOUNTAIN FOOTHILLS AND BREEZY ELSEWHERE. A BLOWING DUST ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE COLUMBIA BASIN AND BLUE MOUNTAIN FOOTHILLS WITH HIGHLIGHTS OF LOCAL BLOWING DUST ELSEWHERE. THE BEST CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION WILL BE OVER THE BLUE MOUNTAINS EASTWARD TO THE IDAHO BORDER. CURRENT FORECAST INCREASES WINDS IN ALL AREAS BY AFTERNOON.
