What happened

The episode as NWS OUN wrote it up.

Severe thunderstorms developed across portions of central and southern Oklahoma during the morning of the 24th and was followed by a period of blowing dust during the late afternoon and early evening. The dust originated from eastern New Mexico and southwest Texas and was accompanied by wind gusts up to 50 mph. Visibilities were occasionally reduced to less than 3 miles. The high winds caused 5 stories of exterior paneling to blow off the west side of the Marriot hotel on Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City at approximately 1700 CST.

TWO MAIN CONCERNS TONIGHT. ONE BEING THE FLOODING POTENTIAL ACROSS
SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST SECTIONS OF FORECAST AREA. CURRENT BATCH
OF RAIN CONTINUES TO TRAIN SOMEWHAT...BUT PRECIP AMOUNTS NOT GETTING
OUT OF HAND. PROBING CALLS TO AFFECT AREAS NOT YIELDING SIGNIFICANT
PROBLEMS WITH JUST SOME HIGH WATER IN NORMALLY POOR DRAINED/LOW
LYING AREAS. STRONGLY WORDED NOWS AND A URBAN/SMALL STREAM ADVISORY
WILL SUFFICE FOR THE TIME BEING. AS FOR THE FLOOD WATCH CURRENTLY IN
EFFECT...WILL NOT TAMPER WITH IT. APPEARS THAT MOST OF THE RAIN THAT
WILL FALL ACROSS THE WATCH AREA HAS ALREADY OCCURRED...WITH
AFOREMENTIONED ACTIVITY. ANY ACTIVITY THAT COMES ROARING THROUGH
HERE LATER TONIGHT WILL BE FAST MOVING AND RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE NOT
EXPECTED TO BE EXCESSIVE. HOWEVER...WITH THAT SAID...WILL NOT DROP
WATCH AND WILL NOT ADD ANY COUNTIES. AREAS JUST NORTH OF WATCH DID
RECEIVE SOME DECENT RAINFALL LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING...BUT ANTICEDENT SOIL CONDITIONS ARE MORE FORGIVING.

SECOND CONCERN IS ASSOCIATED WITH POTENTIAL FOR CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY
OVERNIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY. SO FAR...THINGS ARE QUIET...AND ALL OF
THE LATEST SHORT-TERM/MESOSCALE MODELS INDICATE THAT NOTHING OF
SIGNIFICANCE WILL OCCUR. COLD FRONT/DRY LINE COMBO WILL BEGIN TO
MOVE RAPIDLY EASTWARD ACROSS WEST TEXAS AFTER MIDNIGHT...
ENCOUNTERING BETTER MOISTURE. WITH SIGNIFICANT SHEAR PROFILE...
INCLUDING 120+ KNOT UPPER JET SEGMENT...AMPLE LARGE SCALE FORCING
WILL BE IN PLACE FOR CONVECTIVE DEVEOPMENT ALONG/AHEAD OF COLD
FRONT/DRY LINE. CURRENT FORECAST HAS THIS ALL TAKEN CARE OF. WILL
