Area forecast discussion, Nov 4, 3:05 PM EST, 2 hours 25 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BINGHAMTON NY
305 PM EST SUN NOV 4 2001

VIGOROUS UPPER SHORTWAVE DIGGING TOWARDS WRN NY...WITH RAIN BREAKING
OUT AHEAD OF IT. THIS AREA OF RAIN SHOULD CONTINUE TO EXPAND
OVERNIGHT AS THE UPPER SYSTEM MOVES SOUTHEAST AND CLOSES OFF OVER
ERN NY. MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL BE STEEP OVERNIGHT...AND THE LINE
OF STORMS DEVELOPING NEAR ROCHESTER IS EVIDENCE OF THIS INSTABILITY.
WILL GO WITH LIKELY WORDING IN ALL ZONES...WITH HIGHER POPS IN ERN
ZONES. WILL ALSO MENTION THE POSSIBILITY OF TSTORMS THIS EVENING.
CORE OF COLDEST AIR WILL MOVE THROUGH CENTRAL AND WRN NY OVERNIGHT
INTO PENNSYLVANIA. 1000/850 THICKNESSES WILL FALL TO NEAR 1300M BY
MORNING...SO WILL KEEP MENTION OF RAIN MIXING WITH SNOW. THE RAIN MAY
CHANGEOVER TO SNOW ON THE HILLTOPS. NO ACCUMULATION EXPECTED.

THE AVN CONTINUES TO DO BETTER WITH THE UPPER-TROUGH MOVING
THROUGH THE ERN U.S., AS WELL AS HURRICANE MICHELLE, SO USED IT TO
BASE TODAYS FORECAST.

MONDAY..UPPER LOW MOVES OFF THE COAST OF SE NEW ENGLAND WITH
ADDITIONAL SHORTWAVE ENERGY MOVING THROUGH CENTRAL NY. WILL GO WITH
LIKELY POPS FOR THE ERN TWO-THIRDS OF THE AREA...AND CHC POPS WEST.
LOW LEVEL FLOW WILL BE 330-340 DEGS...AND 850MB TEMPS WILL BE COLD
ENOUGH FOR LAKE EFFECT/ENHANCED PRECIP. BOUNDARY LAYER SHOULD WARM
UP ENOUGH FOR VALLEYS TO HAVE RAIN/SNOW MIX...BUT HILLTOPS COULD SEE
MOSTLY SNOW. DONT EXPECT ANY ACCUMULATION WITH WARM GROUND/BOUNDARY
LAYER. WILL BE BREEZY WITH STRONG COLD ADVECTION AND 40KT 850MB
WINDS.

MONDAY NIGHT..HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN...AND LOW LEVEL FLOW GRADUALLY
SHIFTS TO THE NORTHEAST...SO LAKE EFFECT PRECIP SHOULD BE CONFINED
TO THE EVENING HOURS. IT SHOULD GRADUALLY CLEAR AFTER MIDNIGHT WITH
LOWS RANGING FROM 25-35.

TUESDAY..TEMPS WILL BE 5-10 DEGS WARMER THAN MONDAY AS UPPER LOW
MOVES EAST AND HEIGHTS RISE.

EXTENDED (TUE NIGHT-SUN)..FLOW BECOMES MORE ZONAL WITH THE NEXT
CHANCE OF PRECIP NOT UNTIL THU NIGHT OR FRI. TEMPS WILL NOT VARY A
WHOLE LOT DURING THE WEEK...AND SHOULD BE CLOSE TO SEASONAL NORMS.

WORK ZONES OUT. ZONES BY 330 PM.

.BGM...NONE.
