Strong low pressure moved northeast across southern Ontario and southern Quebec provinces in Canada. The storm was dragging a strong arctic cold front to its south. High winds with the fast moving front knocked down numerous trees and power lines. Tens of thousands of electric customers were without power. ASOS measured winds at 64 mph (56 knots) at Hancock Airport in Syracuse at 253 AM and 58 mph (50 knots) at the Utica airport at 326 AM. Winds behind the front were measured at 74 mph (64 knots) by equipment at a television station in East Syracuse at 345 AM. After this second maximum, winds slowly subsided throughout the day as the low moved into eastern Canada.

WELL ONLY MAKE A FEW MINOR CHANGES WITH THIS UPDATE.

RAPIDLY DEEPENING CYCLONE IS TRACKING THROUGH ONTARIO THIS EVENING,
WITH ITS TRAILING COLD FRONT DOWN ACROSS OHIO.  MOST OF THE SHOWER
ACTIVITY THIS EVENING IN OUR REGION HAS JUST BEEN BRUSHING OUR
WESTERN AND NORTHERN ZONES.  HOWEVER, A MORE CONCENTRATED AREA OF
RAIN IS PUSHING INTO WESTERN NY AS OF THIS WRITING AND THIS SHOULD
MAKE ITS WAY INTO CENTRAL NY TOWARDS MIDNIGHT, THEN EVENTUALLY INTO
NORTHEAST PA AND THE CATSKILLS BY AROUND 3 AM.  WELL WORD THE
FORECAST ZONES USING SUCH TIMING FOR THE ONSET OF MORE PERSISTENT
SHOWERS.

TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO BE ADJUSTED IN THE CATSKILLS AND POCONOS
WHERE A SHALLOW, SURFACE BASED COLD LAYER RESIDES.  READINGS AT
MONTICELLO WERE STILL IN THE 30S AT 9 PM.  IN THESE AREAS, WELL
WORD THE FORECAST FOR RISING TEMPERATURES IN THE NEAR TERM AS THIS
WEDGE OF COLDER AIR SHOULD EVENTUALLY GET SCOURED OUT.

NOT MUCH CHANGE TO EARLIER THINKING FOR THE HIGH WINDS.  IT STILL
APPEARS THAT THE MAXIMUM ISALLOBARIC GRADIENT WILL BE AFFECTING THE
AREA TOWARDS DAYBREAK AND THEN INTO MUCH OF SATURDAY MORNING.  OUR
NORTHERN ZONES SHOULD SEE THE BRUNT OF THE WINDS.  EXISTING WARNINGS
AND ADVISORIES WILL STAY IN TACT.

WORK ZONES WILL BE SENT TO SURROUNDING NWS OFFICES SHORTLY AFTER 10.
THE FINAL PACKAGE WILL BE SHIPPED OUT BEFORE 10:30.
