The first 9 days of the month featured a significant heat wave with several days of locations reporting temperatures in the upper 90's to lower 100's. Numerous high temperature records were set during this time. The heat wave peaked on the 9th when many locations saw temperatures above 100 degrees and some locations equalled or exceeded all-time temperature records for the month of August.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BINGHAMTON NY 840 PM EDT TUE JUL 31 2001 ISOLATED AFTERNOON CONVECTION HAS DISSIPATED AS NIGHT FALLS AND STABILITY INCREASES. WILL NEED AN UPDATE TO FRESHEN UP THE FORECASTS TO REMOVE MENTION OF SHOWERS. REST OF FORECAST STILL LOOKS GOOD UNDER MAINLY CLEAR SKIES AND TEMPS DIPPING INTO THE UPR 50S FOR MANY AREAS. SOME OUTLYING COLD SPOTS LAST NIGHT AROUND THE SUSQUEHANNA REGION DROPPED INTO THE LOWER 50S AND WALTON EVEN HIT 47. DEWPOINTS VARY QUITE A BIT OVER A SHORT DISTANCE FROM 46 AT MSV TO THE LOWER 60S IN THE WYOMING VALLEY UP INTO THE SRN TIER. I THINK I'LL SPLIT OUT A LOCAL EFFECT FOR THE TEMP SPREAD FROM THE VALLEYS TO HILLTOPS OF THE SUSQ RGN AND CATSKILL GROUP TO REFLECT WHAT WILL LIKELY BE A FRAGMENTED SCATTER PLOT OF MIN TEMPS BY SUNRISE. .BGM...NONE.
