150 PM PDT SAT MAY 26 2001

SYNOPSIS...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE NORTH OF THE SILVER
STATE THROUGH MONDAY. THIS WILL BRING CLOUDS AND COOLER TEMPERATURES
TO THE AREA...AS WELL AS A SMALL THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS TO THE
CENTRAL MOUNTAIN AREAS. ON WEDNESDAY HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD IN ONCE
AGAIN BRINGING WARMER TEMPERATURES AND DRY WEATHER.

SHORT TERM...MID LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVED THROUGH NORTHERN NEVADA
THIS MORNING...LEAVING DESTABILIZED AIR IN ITS WAKE. THIS UNSTABLE
AIR HAS TRIGGERED A NUMBER OF THUNDERSTORMS...INCLUDING A LINE THAT
LOOKS SEVERE. THE STORMS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS...
THEN DISSIPATE WITH THE LOSS OF SURFACE HEATING. SOUTHWEST FLOW
REGIME CURRENTLY OVER OUR AREA WILL DRY THE AIRMASS EVEN FURTHER...
LIMITING THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL FOR SUNDAY. THE NEXT SYSTEM SPLITS ON
MONDAY...WITH THE NORTHERN BRANCH MOVING INTO IDAHO AND OREGON.
THIS BRANCH WILL HAVE LITTLE AFFECT ON OUR AREA. THE SOUTHERN BRANCH
IS WEAKER...BUT WILL PROVIDE SOME DYNAMICS THAT MAY BE ENOUGH TO SET
OFF SOME STORMS IN THE CENTRAL AND EAST CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE
STATE.

LONG TERM...RIDGING BEGINS TO BUILD IN AS THE SOUTHERN SYSTEM EXITS
TUESDAY. GENERAL PATTERN BECOMES MORE PROGRESSIVE AFTER DAY 3 SO THAT
BY THE END OF THE EXTENDED ANOTHER TROUGH IS APPROACHING THE WEST
COAST. SINCE FLOW WILL STILL BE SOUTHWESTERLY...WILL NOT MENTION ANY
PRECIPITATION ON SATURDAY...JUST COOLING TEMPERATURES. THE EXCEPTION
WILL BE WHITE PINE COUNTY WHERE IT IS QUESTIONABLE WHETHER OR NOT THE
INCOMING TROUGH WILL AFFECT THEM THAT SOON. PRS
