What happened

The episode as NWS EWX wrote it up.

A severe thunderstorm, moving southwestward toward Brackettville, struck the USAF Nexrad radar installation about 9 miles east of Brackettville. Hail of up to 4 inches in diameter struck first, with several goats in the area later reported to have been killed by the hail. The hail was indicated by bare spots on tree limbs and deep depressions on metal structures in and around the radar site. The effect of the hail was to dent radar buildings and structures and weaken the plexiglass covering o f the radome. A downburst immediately following the hail was sufficient to tear off panels of the plexiglass and cave in the radome. These wind gusts were measured at 84 knots by the Nexrad Radar just prior to the radome collapse. Damage to the radome was extensive, requiring that it be removed and replaced. Estimated repair costs are just under $300,000.

THIS THE RESULT OF FAST MOVING SHORT-WAVE DROPPING SOUTHEAST OVER
SOUTHWESTERN TEXAS.  THE STORMS COULD PERSIST FOR A LITTLE WHILE
UNTIL SHORT-WAVE PASSES AROUND MIDNIGHT AND WILL MAINTAIN POPS...
ALTHOUGH WILL LOWER TO SLIGHT CHANCE DUE SUNSET AND AIRMASS STILL
REMAINS WORKED OVER FROM CONVECTION OF LAST NIGHT AND EARLY THIS
MORNING.  WILL MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS ON WINDPS DUE BOUNDARY POSITION
AND MAY MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS ON TEMPERATURES DUE ONGOING TRENDS.
