WESTERN NEVADA AND EASTERN CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RENO NV
245 PM PDT WED MAY 23 2001

NOT AS MUCH DEVELOPMENT AS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON THOUGH BUT STILL
PRETTY EARLY. WILL KEEP SOME MENTION THIS EVENING AS CU STILL BUILDING
MAINLY NORTH-SOUTH AXIS FROM NORTHERN WASHOE THROUGH MONO COUNTY.
RADAR INDICATING SOME HIGHER RETURNS SOUTH OF CARSON CITY BUT NO
LIGHTNING DETECTED YET ACROSS CWA. SLIDE MTN FINALLY SWITCHED TO THE
WEST SO SHOULD KEEP ANY DEVELOPMENT EASTERN HALF OF CWA. LITTLE CHANGE
THURSDAY EXCEPT MAYBE BETTER AFTERNOON WEST WIND SO ANY THREAT AGAIN
SHOULD BE EASTERN PORTIONS. INSTABILITY MARGINAL SO WILL ONLY HAVE
SLIGHT CHANCES. MAIN PROBLEM STILL SEEMS TO BE THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
SOME CONSISTANCY IN BRINGING IN SHORTWAVE SUNDAY/MONDAY PERIOD BUT HOW
MUCH ENERGY TO COME THROUGH STRONG UPPER RIDGE WITH STRONG DOWNSTREAM
LOW REMAINS IN DOUBT. PREFER WEAKER SOLUTION WITH NOT AS MUCH COOLING
SO WILL STAY ABOVE MOS GUIDANCE. THIS WOULD ALSO MEAN LESS CHANCE OF
SHOWERS/T-STORMS WITH THIS SYSTEM BUT SHOULD STILL SEE DIURNAL
DEVELOPMENT OFF MOUNTAINS. THEN WEAK RIDGING AGAIN NEXT WEEK IN DRIER
W-NW FLOW.

.REV...NONE.
