AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY 1150 AM EDT SAT MAY 19 2001 15Z SURFACE MAP SHOWS SURFACE LOW BETWEEN KHOP AND KPAH...WHICH IS A REFLECTION OF WEAKENING MCV OVER SW KY AND NW TN. STATIONARY FRONT EXTENDS EAST ALONG THE INTERSTATE 64 CORRIDOR. MAIN CONCERN THIS AFTERNOON IS FOR LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN. PWS ARE STILL HIGH AND STORMS WILL BE RELATIVELY SLOW MOVING DUE TO WEAK STEERING WINDS. WE WILL CONTINUE FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR NORTHERN COUNTIES AS MORE STORMS SHOULD DEVELOP AND TRAIN ALONG THE FRONT. MORE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP AS ENERGY ROTATES AROUND WEAKENING MCV INTO OUR SOUTHERN COUNTIES WHERE BEST SURFACE HEATING IS OCCURRING AT THIS TIME. TEMPS THERE ARE RUNNING NEAR FORECAST HIGHS SO WILL RAISE HIGHS TO AROUND 80. WEAK WIND PROFILE SHOULD LEAD TO VERY FEW IF ANY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. WE WILL GO WITH CATEGORICAL POPS EVERYWHERE.
