AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
250 PM CDT SUN JUL 29 2001
MAIN FORECAST CHALLENGE IS TEMPERATURES FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
CURRENT SYSTEM IS MAKING A MESSY EXIT AS ISOLATED SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ARE STILL GOING OVER PARTS OF THE CWA. MODELS DID NOT
HANDLE TODAYS SITUATION VERY WELL. MAY HAVE TO GO WITH RADAR TRENDS
AND HAVE AN EVENING SHOWER/THUNDERSTORM POSSIBLE.
LATEST LAPS STREAMLINE ANALYSIS HAS SEVERAL WEAK CONVERGENCE
AREAS...BUT NO CLEAR CUT BOUNDARY CAN BE FOUND THERE OR FROM SURFACE
OBS. LAPS SOUNDINGS SHOWING DRIER MID AND UPPER LEVEL AIR MOVING IN
FROM THE NORTH. WATER VAPOR LOOPS INDICATE THE SAME. THIS SHOULD
EFFECTIVELY PUT AN END TO THE ISOLATED CONVECTION THIS EVENING.
QUESTION IS TO WHETHER LOWER DEW POINTS WILL MAKE IT INTO THE CWA.
BOTH MAV/FWC LOWER DEW POINTS. LIKE THE FWC IN THIS MATTER WITH
SLIGHTLY HIGHER DEW POINTS.
UPPER LEVEL RIDGE IS SLOW TO BUILD OVER THE AREA...AVN/ETA WAITS
UNTIL 18Z TUESDAY TO BUILD THE RIDGE FULLY INTO THE AREA. DEPENDING
UPON DEW POINT VALUES...HEAT INDEX WILL LIKELY GO OVER 100...BUT AT
THIS TIME...FEEL THEY WILL NOT REACH ADVISORY CRITERIA. WILL HAVE TO
KEEP WATCH ON THIS. RIDGE IS FORECAST TO STAY IN PLACE UNTIL LATE
THURSDAY OR FRIDAY BEFORE IT RETROGRADES WEST. ECMWF AGREES. AT THIS
POINT WILL FOLLOW MEX GUIDANCE AND KEEP A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN
FORECAST FOR FRIDAY.
LIWKE THE FWC LOWS...OTHERWISE WILL BE CLOSE TO MAV/FWC GUIDANCE FOR
HIGHS.
