AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY 240 PM EDT THU AUG 30 2001 THE NGM...ETA AND AVN MODELS ALL SHOW THAT CLOUDS WILL INCREASE TONIGHT AND IT WILL RAIN MOST OF THE DAY FRIDAY. THE ETA MODEL MOISTURE FIELD IS PREFERRED...WITH THE MOS WEAKER AND THE AVN STRONGER. DEEP MOISTURE WILL ADVECT UP FROM THE SOUTHWEST OVERNIGHT AS A SHORT WAVE TROUGH DIGS SOUTHEAST FROM THE GREAT LAKES REGION. THE ETA FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW THAT LOWER TROPOSPHERIC FLOW INCREASES SOME BY FRIDAY AND PRECIPITABLE WATER STAYS AROUND 1.5 INCHES. SINCE THE HEAVIER RAIN CELLS ON FRIDAY SHOULD HAVE A 15 TO 20 MPH MOVEMENT...AND THE LATEST HPC GUIDANCE SHOWS A HALF INCH AREAL AVERAGE FOR EASTERN KY THIS EVENING THROUGH THE DAY FRIDAY... NO HEAVY RAIN PROBLEMS ARE EXPECTED. A SURFACE COLD FRONT APPROACHING FROM THE UPPER MIDWEST WILL PUSH SOUTH THROUGH EASTERN KY BY EARLY SATURDAY...WITH RESIDUAL MORNING SHOWERS OVER THE FAR SOUTHEAST. THE NGM POPS WILL BE INCREASED FOR TONIGHT AND FRIDAY...OTHERWISE THE TEMPERATURE GUIDANCE LOOKS GOOD.
