AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WICHITA KS 1215 PM CST THU MAR 15 2001 UPDATED... INTENSE DYNAMIC SYSTEM NOW OCCLUDING WITH UPPER LOW NOW MOVING JUST EAST OF PONCA CITY WITH ELONGATED STILL INTENSIFYING SFC LOW. APPEARS THAT SOUTH CENTRAL KS IS IN THE AREA OF STRONGEST UPWARD MOTION JUST NORTH OF THE UPPER LOW AND RECENT SCATTERED REPORTS OF SLEET MIXED ACROSS HARVEY COUNTY WOULD SUGGEST THAT THIS IS INDEED THE CASE. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THAT REPORTS OF SLEET OR EVEN WET SNOW FLAKES DOES NOT INDICATE A TREND TOWARD FREEZING PRECIP HOWEVER IT IS MORE A REFLECTION OF SOUTH CENTRAL/S POSITION WITHIN THE STRONGEST LIFT THAT IS THE CAUSE OF THE SPORADIC FREEZING PRECIP REPORTS. OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS...AS THE UPPER LOW MOVES EAST THIS LIFT WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN AND GIVEN BOUNDARY LAYER TEMPS EXPECT THAT THE THREAT FOR SNOW OR SLEET WHICH WOULD POSE A THREAT TO THE PUBLIC WILL STAY NORTH OF THE GREATER WICHITA AREA. GIVEN CURRENT FCST AND RADAR/SFC REPORT TRENDS WILL CARRY THE CURRENT ORIENTATION OF WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES. WILL TRIM SNOWFALL AMOUNT FCSTS FOR CENTRAL KS HOWEVER WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO REDUCE VISIBILITIES SIGNIFICANTLY THIS AFTERNOON.
