AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS IN 220 PM EST THU SEP 6 2001 THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE INTO THE WEEKEND. MOISTURE FLOWING NORTH AHEAD OF A LARGE UPPER TROUGH WILL GIVE THE FORECAST AREA A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH SUNDAY. THE BEST CHANCE APPEARS TO BE LATE SATURDAY NIGHT...WHEN A COLD FRONT IS FORECAST TO PASS THROUGH THE AREA. HIGH PRESSURE WAS OVER NEW ENGLAND THIS AFTERNOON. COMPLEX LOW PRESSURE AND A COLD FRONT WERE OVER THE DAKOTAS. A WARM FRONT WAS FROM THE LOWER OHIO VALLEY TO THE DAKOTAS. AN UPPER LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH WAS OVER THE MID PART OF THE NATION. AN UPPER LOW WAS OVER THE NORTHWEST U.S. SKIES WERE MOSTLY SUNNY OVER THE AREA. CLOUDS WERE STREAMING INTO SOUTHWEST INDIANA AND CONVECTION WAS DEVELOPING OVER THE LOWER OHIO VALLEY. THE WARM FRONT WILL MOVE QUICKLY NORTH AND PASS THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA TONIGHT. THE SHORT WAVE TROUGH IS FORECAST TO WEAKEN AS IT LIFTS NORTHEAST. THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE AS EARLY AS THIS EVENING OVER THE SOUTHEAST PART OF THE AREA. MUCH OF THE REST OF THE AREA WILL HAVE A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS LATER TONIGHT. WILL LEAVE OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST TONIGHT BECAUSE THE UPPER TROUGH SHOULD JUST BRUSH THE NORTHWEST PART. MORE HUMID OVER THE AREA TOMORROW. THE WARM FRONT WILL BE NORTH OF THE AREA AND THE SHORT WAVE WILL HAVE PASSED. WILL KEEP A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS THOUGH AS DEEPER MOISTURE MOVES OVER THE AREA. THAT DEEP MOISTURE STAYS TOMORROW NIGHT AND SATURDAY...BUT CHANCE SHOULD BE SMALL TOMORROW NIGHT WITHOUT HEATING. ANOTHER UPPER SHORT WAVE WILL PUSH THE COLD FRONT THROUGH THE AREA SATURDAY NIGHT.
