A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH HAS ALREADY BEEN POSTED FOR ALL OF CENTRAL ILLINOIS UNTIL 6 PM. A HOT AND HUMID AIRMASS WILL INTERACT WITH A FRONT MOVING INTO CENTRAL ILLINOIS...TO PRODUCE SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO TONIGHT. THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS. Thunderstorm winds blew down a one and a half foot diameter tree one mile south of Bradford.
Thunderstorm winds blew down a large tent at the county fairgrounds. No injuries were reported.
A downburst flattened a large cornfield near Woodford. No crop damage estimate was available.
A large tree was blown over onto Illinois Route 24 in Chenoa, blocking it. Also, several cornfields were flattened southwest of Chenoa.
Downburst winds caused considerable damage on the west side of Hoopeston. Three businesses were destroyed, one hundred homes sustained minor to moderate damage, and the EMS building was destroyed. Also, the sewer department suffered major damage and a church suffered minor damage. Numerous trees, tree limbs, power poles, and power lines were blown down in Hoopeston and areas to the southeast, east of Rossville. No injuries or deaths were reported. Damage was estimated around 8.5 million dollars.
A tornado briefly touched down northwest of town flattening a cornfield, then caused minor roof damage to seven homes. Also, a garage suffered major damage with several trees and power lines blown down. No injuries were reported.
