AFDHI HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SYNOPTIC DISCUSSION AND GUIDANCE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI 4 PM HST SAT MAY 19 2001 SUMMARY...MOSTLY SUNNY MORNINGS FOLLOWED BY AFTERNOON CLOUDS AND SOME SHOWERS DEVELOPING...MAINLY OVER MOUNTAIN AND INTERIOR SECTIONS. LIGHT EAST WINDS WITH DAY TIME SEA BREEZES FOR MOST ISLANDS. DISCUSSION...CONVECTION ONCE AGAIN DEVELOPED OVER THE INTERIOR AND MOUNTAIN SECTIONS OF ALL ISLANDS THIS AFTERNOON. THE DEVELOPMENT IS A TAD LESS VIGOROUS COMPARING TO FRIDAYS...THOUGH AM NOT SURPRISED IF ISOLATED HEAVY SHOWERS OCCUR IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. A WEAKENING FRONT REMAINS ABOUT 600 NM NORTHWEST OF THE ISLANDS...WITH A WEAK RIDGE BETWEEN THIS FRONT AND THE ISLANDS. FORECAST CHARTS ARE CONSISTENT IN TILTING THIS RIDGE MORE EAST-WEST ORIENTED IN TIME... THUS ALLOWING THE WINDS TO TURN MORE EAST. ON THE OTHER HAND...THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE RIDGE WILL KEEP WINDS LIGHT THROUGH THE FORECAST PERIOD. HENCE THE LAND-SEA BREEZE TYPE WEATHER REGIME WILL CONTINUE...WITH MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES DURING THE LATE NIGHT AND MORNING HOURS...AND AFTERNOON CLOUDS AND SHOWERS MAINLY OVER THE INTERIOR AND MOUNTAIN SECTIONS. THE LIGHT EAST WINDS MAY CARRY CLOUDS AND SHOWERS FROM THE EAST AFFECTING THE WINDWARD SECTIONS AT TIMES COMPLICATING MATTERS.
