WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
220 PM EDT MON JUL 30 2001

A COUPLE OF FEATURES OF SIGNIFICANCE WITH RESPECT TO THE UPCOMING
FORECAST...THE FIRST BEING THE INCREASE IN MEAN LAYER MOISTURE
FROM THE N WITH THE APPROACH OF A FRONTAL TROUGH INTO S GA...THE
OTHER BEING THE HEALTHY TROPICAL WAVE TRAVERSING THE CARIBBEAN
AND EVENTUALLY INTO THE SRN GULF OF MEXICO.

IN THE SHORT TERM...SUNDAYS DRIER ATMOS ACROSS THE PNSULA HAS
MOISTENED SOME TO ALLOW AT LEAST A 30 POP OF DIURNAL AFTN/EVE
CONVECTION OVER THE PNSULA TODAY COMPARED TO LESS THAN 10 PERCENT ON
SUNDAY. WOULD EXPECT CONDITIONS TO REVERT TO MOSTLY CLEAR MOST AREAS
TONIGHT EXCEPT NRN FA WHERE TROUGH MOISTURE MAY EITHER SAG CONVECTION
SWD FROM N FL OR PROVIDE INCREASED MOISTURE TO SUSTAIN A CHANCE FOR
POP INTO THE COASTAL AND NRN FA INTO TONIGHT.

ON TUESDAY...INCREASED FRONTAL TROUGH MOISTURE SAGGING SWD ALONG
WITH SURFACE WINDS VEERING FROM NWLY TO NELY ON TUESDAY...WOULD
ANTICIPATE A FURTHER INCREASE IN MID AFTN THROUGH EVENING DIURNAL
POPS FROM 60 PCT N TO 40 PERCENT S...DIMINISHING AGAIN TUESDAY
NIGHT.

DIFFICULTLY ON WEDNESDAY WILL BE IF THERE WILL CONTINUE TO BE ANY
SEMBLANCE OF A TYPICAL DRIER SUBSIDENCE AREA IN ADVANCE OF THE
TROPICAL WAVE POSSIBLY IMPACTING POPS ACROSS NRN/CENTRL PNSULA.
BUT MODELS IMPLY THE WAVE TO PRESS ON WWD TO PASS 85 DEG W WED AFTN
TO ALLOW INCREASED TROP MOISTURE TO SWING NWD INTO S PNSULA. SO FOR
WED WILL PUSH POPS TO LIKELY FOR SW COAST WITH CONTINUED CHANCE
ELSEWHERE.

AT PRESENT THE WAVE IS NOT FORECAST TO INTENSIFY...BUT AS THE WAVE
TREKS W EXPECT SOME TIGHTENING OF GRADIENT BEGINNING TUESDAY NIGHT
INTO THURSDAY...WITH SUBSEQUENT INCREASE IN WINDS. BUT DUE TO
UNCERTAINTY AT THIS TIME WITH TROPICAL WAVES STRENGTH AND EVENTUAL
PATH...WILL ONLY INCREASE WINDS TO ELY IN THE 15 TO 20 KTS RANGE.
FORTUNATELY EAST WINDS WILL NIX ANY TIDAL PROBLEMS FOR THE GULF
COAST.

PRESENT FORECAST LOGIC IS FOR TROPICAL DISTURBANCE TO CONTINUE
WWD INTO WRN GULF ON FRIDAY. THIS SHOULD ALLOW WINDS/SEAS/POPS TO
RETURN CLOSER TO SUMMER NORMALS FOR THE EAST GULF AND PNSULA FRIDAY
INTO SATURDAY.
