EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
245 PM EDT MON JUL 16 2001

CURRENTLY...OLD FRONTAL BOUNDARY LOSING CHARACTER ACROSS S/CEN FL
THIS AFTERNOON...AND HAS BECOME LITTLE MORE THAN A WIND SHIFT
LINE...WITH E WINDS TO THE NORTH AND SW WINDS SOUTH. SMALL SFC
VORTS CONTINUE SPINNING UP ALL ALONG THE FRONT DUE TO THE HIGH SHEAR
ENVIRONMENT OVER THE REGION. MOST NOTICEABLE OF THESE ARE OVER LAKE
OKEECHOBEE AND OVER THE GOMEX JUST WEST OF FMY. A FEW SHOWERS ARE
PUSHING ACROSS THE REGION...BUT MOST ACTIVITY IS BEING SHOVED INTO
THE WRN HALF OF THE PENINSULA IN THE EASTERLY FLOW.

OVERNIGHT...THE OLD FRONTAL TROUGH HAS SHOWED SIGNS OF DRIFTING
NORTH...ESPECIALLY WEST OF OKEECHOBEE THE LAST HOUR. THE BOUNDARY
WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTH OVERNIGHT AND WILL BE NORTH OF THE CWA
BY TUE MORNING. EXPECT TO KEEP A SMALL POP SOUTH FOR LINGERING
EVENING STORMS AND WILL WATCH RADAR TRENDS FOR THAT DECISION LATER.
WILL ALSO KEEP A SLIGHT POP ACROSS NRN COASTAL ZONES OVERNIGHT FOR
COASTAL SHOWERS FORMING ALONG THE BOUNDARY AS IT DRIFTS NORTH. LOW
LEVEL FLOW SOUTH OF THE CAPE SHOULD BE MORE PARALLEL TO THE COAST...
SO WILL NOT MENTION POPS SRN COASTAL COUNTIES.

TUE AND WED...WILL TRANSITION FROM A WX PATTERN DRIVEN BY THE
SYNOPTIC SCALE BOUNDARY OVER THE REGION TO A MORE NORMAL MESOSCALE
SEA BREEZE BOUNDARY DRIVEN PATTERN. MOISTURE IS ALREADY SHOWING
SIGNS OF INCREASING AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS WILL INCREASE AS
THE OLD BOUNDARY MOVES NORTH. FLOW ON TUE LOOKS TO BE A LIGHT BUT
DEEP SOUTHERLY FLOW...EXTENDING ALL THE WAY UP TO H7. THIS WILL
FAVOR GOOD CONVERGENCE AND ACTIVE EAST AND WEST COAST BREEZES
TOMORROW WITH INTERIOR SECTIONS FAVORED FOR CONVECTION AS BOUNDARIES
COME TOGETHER LATE. WILL GO LIKELY POPS INTERIOR TOMORROW AND CHC
POPS (40S) COAST. WED LOOKS GOOD AS WELL AS LIGHT WIND FIELDS
CONTINUE. LOOKS LIKE H85 FLOW BECOMES SW WED AS THE BERMUDA RIDGE
AXIS BEGINS TO RE-ESTABLISH OVER SRN FL. THIS WILL FAVOR THE ERN
HALF OF THE PENINSULA FOR CONVECTION. AVN AND ETA ARE IN BIG
DISAGREEMENT ON PWATS WED...WITH AVN MUCH DRIER. BELIEVE THE AVN IS
TOO DRY AND AM LEANING MORE TOWARDS ETA REGARDING MOISTURE. WILL GO
50 POPS AREA WIDE WED NOT FAVORING THE INTERIOR SINCE SW WINDS WILL
HELP PUSH CONVECTION BACK TO THE COAST. TEMPTING TO GO LIKELY POPS
AGAIN...BUT WOULD RATHER STICK WITH GOOD CHANCE FOR NOW.

EXTENDED...RIDGE AXIS REMAINS ESTABLISHED OVER SRN FLORIDA KEEPING
THE REGION IN A SW FLOW. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO FAVOR THE ERN
PENINSULA FOR SCT CONVECTION THROUGH THE WEEKEND. AVN/MRF SUPPRESS
THE RIDGE AXIS SOUTH OVER THE WEEKEND AS ANOTHER DEEP ERN US H5 TROF
FORMS AND ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE SFC FRONT DROPS SOUTH. THE LATEST MRF
SHOWS THE FRONT THROUGH THE REGION LATE SUN. CLIMO SUGGESTS THIS IS
NOT LIKELY AND I DON'T LIKE THE DEEP SFC LOW IT SPINS UP OVER N/CEN
FL ALONG THE FRONT EITHER. SO THE MRF SEEMS A BIT OVERDONE TO SAY
THE LEAST...BUT AFTER THIS LAST FRONT MADE IT WELL SOUTH OF
OKEECHOBEE...ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. PREFER TO LUMP MONDAY IN WITH THE
WEEKEND FOR NOW AS IF SW FLOW CONTINUES AND FRONT NEVER MAKES IT TO
THE REGION.

MARINE...GRADIENT WINDS ARE DIMINISHING AND WILL BE ABLE TO DROP THE
CAUTION TONIGHT. SEAS STILL 5 FEET AT BUOY 9 AND WILL BE SLOW TO
DIMINISH AS SWELLS CONTINUE. WINDS WILL TRANSITION TO SOUTH AND THEN
SW BY THU.
