EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
225 PM EDT THU AUG 30 2001

CURRENTLY/TONIGHT...A FEW CELLS FORMING OVER INTERIOR SECTIONS
PRESENTLY. EAST COAST SEA BREEZE STARTING TO DRIFT INLAND. COVERAGE
OF SHOWERS/STORMS SHOULD BE HIGHEST LATE AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING
OVER THE NORTHERN INTERIOR SECTIONS WITH EAST/WEST COAST SEA BREEZE
MERGERS. WILL GO HIGHEST WITH SCATTERED EVENING POPS THOSE
LOCATIONS. WILL KEEP FORECAST DRY SOUTHERN COASTAL ZONES WHERE SEA
BREEZE WILL BE WELL INLAND AND GENERAL STORM DRIFT WILL BE SLOW TO
THE NNW. THIS WILL ALLOW THE STORMS THAT DO FORM TO GIVE A HEALTHY
DOUSING OF RAIN TO THE LOCATIONS THEY DRIFT OVER.

FRI THROUGH SAT...APPROACH OF FRONTAL TROUGH INTO SE U.S. WILL BEGIN
TO SUPPRESS LOW LEVEL RIDGE THAT IS OVER THE CENTRAL PENINSULA TODAY
SOUTHWARD FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. AS THIS OCCURS...SWLY WIND COMPONENT
WILL EXTEND THROUGH STEERING LEVELS. AFTERNOON CONVECTION THAT
DEVELOPS OVER THE INTERIOR AS THE SEA BREEZES COLLIDE WILL BEGIN TO
MOVE BACK TOWARD THE EAST COAST IN THE EVENINGS THROUGH ROUGHLY
NORTHERN HALF OF THE CWA...WHILE SOUTHERN COASTAL SECTIONS SHOULD
REMAIN DRY IN THE EVENINGS. WILL HAVE SCATTERED POPS IN BOTH DAY/EVE
NORTHERN AND INTERIOR BUT WITH COLLISIONS OCCURRING LATE AFTERNOON
WILL HAVE TO DECIDE WHETHER ONE PERIOD SHOULD BE HIGHER THAN THE
OTHER. SEA BREEZE ONSET WILL OCCUR A LITTLE LATER TO THE NORTH
ALTHOUGH LOW LEVEL FLOW NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO INHIBIT DEVELOPMENT
OF THE SEA BREEZE ALTOGETHER.

EXTENDED...END OF LATEST AVN RUN INDICATES FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL
DIMINISH NEAR FL/GA BORDER LATE IN THE WEEKEND BUT RIDGE AXIS WILL
REMAIN ACROSS SOUTHERN PENINSULA THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. THIS WILL
CONTINUE TO MAKE IT FAVORABLE FOR AFTERNOON CONVECTION TO DRIFT
TOWARD THE EAST COAST...ESPECIALLY NORTHERN SECTIONS. WILL KEEP
SCATTERED POPS THROUGH EXTENDED.

MARINE...AS RIDGE AXIS SLIPS SOUTH OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...
WINDS WILL BECOME SWLY OVER NORTHERN LEG BUT WINDS NEAR THE COAST
WILL BECOME ONSHORE DURING THE AFTERNOONS. STORMS WILL ALSO BEGIN TO
MOVE ACROSS EAST COAST OVER NORTHERN LEG DURING THE EVENINGS.
