WESTERN COLORADO & EASTERN UTAH AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAND JUNCTION CO 300 AM MDT WED MAY 23 2001 ASIDE FROM CONTINUATION OF THE WARMING TREND.. LITTLE CHANGE TODAY AND THURSDAY AS BLOCKING LOW STAYS PUT OVER THE EASTERN U.S. THIS KEEPS WARM RIDGE ACROSS THE WEST WITH PROGGED 700 MB TEMPERATURE AROUND 10-11C. LAPSE RATES STEEPEN TODAY.. BUT INSUFFICIENT MOISTURE FOR ANY INSTABILITY BUT SOME MOUNTAIN CUMULI WILL FORM. LAPSE RATES REACH 9C/KM IN THE 700 TO 500 MB LAYER THURSDAY AFTERNOON WITH A SMALL INCREASE OF PRECIPITABLE WATER ACROSS NORTHERN COLORADO. THIS MAY BE ENOUGH FOR AN ISOLATED HIGH BASED THUNDERSTORM OVER THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MOUNTAINS LATE IN THE DAY. PREVIOUS PACKAGE ALREADY HAVE THIS INCLUDED.. AND WILL KEEP MENTIONING THIS. OTHERWISE WARMING TREND CONTINUES INTO THURSDAY WITH ANOTHER RISE OF 2-4F FOR MOST LOCATIONS. FRISBIE WESTERN COLORADO AND EASTERN UTAH EMERGENCY MANAGERS SHOULD MAINTAIN A NORMAL LEVEL OF WEATHER AWARENESS TODAY. .GJT...NONE.
