230 PM PST SAT NOV 24 2001

.SYNOPSIS...A PACIFIC STORM WILL BRING RAIN AND AREAS OF STRONG
WINDS THROUGH TONIGHT. SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER SOME OF THE HIGHER
MOUNTAINS...MAINLY TOWARDS SUNDAY MORNING. THIS STORM WILL RAPIDLY
MOVE EAST SUNDAY AND BRING AN END TO THE PRECIPITATION. ANOTHER
STORM PASSING BY TO THE NORTH MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY WILL BRING A
CHANCE OF SHOWERS. ANOTHER SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE LATE IN THE WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...SOLID RAIN IS MOVING INTO OUR NW SECTIONS...INCLUDING
ONTARIO...AND SCATTERED SHOWERS ARE OCCURRING OVER MOST OTHER AREAS.
THE BURNS CANYON RAWS SHOWED A WIND GUST OF 92 MPH JUST
RECENTLY...NOT CERTAIN HOW ACCURATE THAT IS...BUT THE WIND GUSTS OF
57-59 MPH FROM THE 3 HOURS PREVIOUS CERTAINLY LOOK PLAUSIBLE. OTHER
NUMEROUS WIND GUSTS OF 45+ HAVE BEEN REPORTED FROM THE APPLE VALLEY
SOUTH TO BANNER QUEEN ON THE E SLOPES OF THE SAN DIEGO MTNS.
MOUNTAIN-WAVE CLOUDS ARE QUITE ABUNDANT ON SATELLITE.

THE MODELS HAVE GENERALLY BEEN TOO SLOW WITH THIS
FEATURE...ESPECIALLY UP NORTH. THUS...MOST OF THE RAIN SHOULD OCCUR
TONIGHT AND END BEFORE SUNRISE...EXCEPT FOR ISOLATED MTN/NEAR-MTN
SHOWERS OR ISLAND-EFFECT RAINS IN THE SAN DIEGO COASTAL
AREAS/WATERS. SNOW WILL BE MINOR AS MOST OF THE COOLING WILL OCCUR
BEHIND THE MOISTURE...SO ONLY A FEW INCHES...IF ANY...WILL OCCUR
OVER THE N MTNS ABOVE 6-7K FEET. WE COULD HAVE A CHILLY NIGHT SUNDAY
NIGHT AS THE MARINE LAYER WILL BE NIL AND TEMPS ALOFT RATHER LOW. IF
SUNDAY ENDS UP MORE CLEAR AND WITH LOWER DEW POINTS THAN
EXPECTED...WE MAY SEE FROST IN QUITE A FEW VALLEY LOCATIONS SUNDAY
NIGHT. THE NEXT SYSTEM WILL AFFECT US MON NIGHT/TUE...AND
MODELS...INCLUDING 18Z MSO...CONTINUE TO TREND THIS FURTHER
WEST...SO AS THAT HAPPENS...OUR PRECIP CHANCES INCREASE. STILL...WE
ARE LIKELY TO HAVE MOSTLY SHOWERS AS THIS SHOULD TAKE SOMEWHAT OF A
NW-SE INLAND TRAJECTORY...AND THE MARINE LAYER WILL BE LACKING
BEFOREHAND.

MRF/CANADIAN ENSEMBLES VARY QUITE A BIT FOR LATE IN THE WEEK...BUT
IT LOOKS LIKE SOME SORT OF MODERATELY BROAD AND MODERATELY DEEP
TROUGH WILL MOVE THROUGH AROUND FRI OR SAT FOR ANOTHER CHANCE OF
RAIN.
