INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - HANFORD CA 155 PM PDT MON JUL 30 2001 SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS THE WEAKENING FRONTAL BAND NOW MOVING INTO THE SIERRA OF FRESNO COUNTY AS THE TROUGH AXIS PUSHES INTO THE CENTRAL COAST. TEMPERATURES ARE MARKEDLY COOLER AT ALL LOCATIONS...RUNNING 10 TO 15 DEGREES LOWER THAN SUNDAY AFTERNOON. LOOKS LIKE ON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY THAT A WEAK VORT MAX IS LOCATED WEST OF THE BAY AREA AND MODELS ACTUALLY DEPICT THIS FEATURE WELL AND BRING IT ALONG WITH THE TROUGH AXIS INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BY TUESDAY MORNING. WITH THE COOL POOL OF SYNOPTIC AND MARINE INFLUENCE AIR OVER THE AREA TONIGHT...EXPECT MORNING LOWS TO GET DOWNRIGHT COOL FOR A CHANGE. A FEW CLOUDS ARE ALSO NOTED ON THE VISIBLE IMAGERY OVER THE YOSEMITE AREA AND EVEN FEWER OVER THE CREST OF THE WESTERN FRESNO COUNTY MOUNTAINS. EXPECT MOST OF THESE TO DISSIPATE BY SUNSET BUT WILL MENTION IN THE YOSEMITE ZONE FOR EARLY THIS EVENING. FOR TONIGHT...MOST LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY WILL BE IN THE 50S. ON TUESDAY...THE TROUGH AXIS BEGINS TO LIFT EAST BY LATE IN THE DAY...BUT ONLY A MINIMAL WARM UP IS EXPECTED AS LINGERING MARINE AIR WILL TAKE ITS TIME MODERATING. IN THE EXTENDED FORECAST...MEDIUM RANGE MODELS AGREE IN BRIEFLY BUILDING THE DESERT SOUTHWEST RIDGE BACK INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...BUT YET ANOTHER TROUGH IS PROGGED TO DEVELOP ALONG THE WEST COAST OVER THE WEEKEND. THE SHORT LIVED RIDGE WILL LIKELY NOT ALLOW A RETURN OF MONSOON MOISTURE INTO THE SIERRA AND WILL KEEP THE FORECAST DRY.
