INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - HANFORD CA 320 PM PDT TUE JUL 24 2001 CLOSED LOW CONTINUES TO MOVE SLOWLY SOUTHEAST. CONVECTION SLOWER TO START THIS AFTERNOON...BUT BEGINNING TO GET SOME CU DEVELOPMENT OVER THE SIERRA. DEFORMATION ZONE STILL EXTENDS FROM CENTRAL NV INTO THE SOUTHERN SIERRA. THIS WILL SERVE THE FOCUS FOR SOME LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE SIERRA. COULD ALSO SEE SOME CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY IN THE KERN MTNS AND IN THE KERN DESERT AREAS NEAR THE MOUNTAINS. WITH THE LOW STILL IN CLOSE PROXIMITY... E-NE FLOW ALOFT WILL PROVIDE A FAVORABLE TRAJECTORY FOR A STRAY SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM AGAIN TO DRIFT OVER THE SJ VALLEY FLOOR... MAINLY IN THE SOUTH VALLEY. AVN STILL TAKES THE UPPER LOW FARTHER EAST THAN THE ETA WEDNESDAY. IN EITHER CASE...SOME MOISTURE REMAINS OVER THE SIERRA...BUT THE BEST MOISTURE REMAINS FARTHER EAST. WILL LEAVE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. UPPER LOW SHIFTS EAST OF CA ON THURSDAY WITH HEIGHTS AND TEMPERATURES CONTINUING TO EDGE UPWARD A FEW DEGREES. ANOTHER TROUGH APPROACHES THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
